Something I would like to share with my LinkedIn friends, as well as others.

When you have somehow earned or inherited the luxury of not needing to subvert your creative, humanistic activities to the whims of the capitalist marketplace, a whole world of possibilities opens up.?In my case, I earned it through my diverse career path.

To wit: I published an expensive hardbound book on evolution with a mainstream, respected international publisher, but?very few people were even aware of it, because the company could not afford to market and promote the book, and the price point was way to high, despite my suggestions to the publisher.?

So I took matters into my own hands. Anyone who has the basic essentials to take care of themselves and their family and dependents can do this.?

But when I obtained the audio rights and decided that my primary objective is based on my deep belief that two things— rational science,?and a deep and true understanding of our human origins— and the ultimate source of knowledge and the solution to our systemic economic and social problems throughout the ages—that these things belong to the people of the world—they are a human right.?

Once I freed myself of the economic dependency on daily work for either an employer or to cater to the whims of the marketplace, I decided to produce my own affordable audiobook version of “Rethinking Evolution”, and persuaded Jeremy Arthur to narrate it.?

After that, it was easy to produce accessible YouTube videos on my desktop—227 of them, to be exact—to make this—along with a Wikipedia-linked online glossary —accessible to the entire world, for free—people started to realize a profound truth about the work that I consider to be the magnum opus of my career as a research scientist.

Namely, that Darwin introduced what has proven to be only the beginning of the amazing true story of the evolution of life on earth, in all its splendor and diversity.

In addition to creating a comprehensive update to evolutionary theory that anyone with a high school education can understand and appreciate, I also discovered—by studying the work of thousands of other scientists—the key ingredient that was missing from the concept of natural selection via incremental change alone—the cornerstone of classical Darwinian theory.?

That ingredient—not articulated before in quite the way that I have done—I call Emergent Evolutionary Potential, and it has several aspects, some obvious, and some nuanced and profound.?

In the next article, I will begin to explore some of these with my LinkedIn friends.?

A word about social media and comments.

I have no patience for people who post just to get attention or likes, and that especially goes for comments on other people’s articles or posts. So I use the LinkedIn settings to control the focus of the readers, and to keep it friendly, constructive, and educational.?Anyone can do this.?

This is a first draft.

Indeed well done Gene! Greatness is a choice! Everyone must be in total control of their work. I've never depended on traditional publishers because I feel they do not know the modern market powered by digital technology. Even their ebooks are priced too high. I've spent the past 10+ years teaching anyone willing to listen how to become successful independent publishers so that their books can be priced affordably in all formats: ebooks, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook.
