There is something in doing it ourselves....
This may be controversial.
I have been in the IT industry for a long time…long long time…26 years. Things have changed.
I started my career as a Tech Support Engineer. I debugged issues, incidents, problems. We didn’t “specialize” in things. We did everything. We carried tool kits. We opened the servers. We installed OS. We installed software. We carried out preventive maintenance. We did capacity planning. We did strategy. We helped sell more business. We presented propositions. We did everything.?
Every day, we got into situations. We were pushed to the deep end of the pool. We had to think about options. We had to make decisions. We made mistakes, got bruised, got burnt.?
Those scars made us bold. They made us confident. The satisfaction and the happiness of winning those battles cannot be explained. We slept so well when we did something and made things happen. There is something in doing things ourselves.
Things have changed…and how. We are encouraging ourselves to make use of technology to think on behalf of us, to write on behalf of us, to speak on behalf of us, to switch on the lights for us, to draw the curtains for us, and to represent us! All of us have read the story about a boy and butterfly. The boy saw the butterfly struggling to come out of the confinements of cocoon it was in. He helped the butterfly to come out of the cocoon by tearing the cocoon with a pair of scissors. The butterfly came out small, weak and with underdeveloped wings. In his eagerness to help, he shunted the development of the butterfly.
In our eagerness and urgency to “Do tomorrow, today” and “Going to future faster”, hope we are not robbing ourselves and generations to come of the joys of doing it ourselves. No, it’s not like I want everyone to go through the struggle just because we went through. But, pressure is privilege, struggle is privilege. Does our brain release dopamine when a GenAI product writes a fabulous email for us?
Let me stop here. It must be getting late for you.
Alexa – what time is it, please? :) :)

I know this may be controversial. World is going gaga on all the artificial intelligence capabilities and what it can do for us. Yes, it can do lot of things. Product companies will keep developing capabilities and features. Guru’s will educate people on hacks to utilize these features. It’s my opinion that we should not over do this technology for sake of technology. These are purely my personal views and do not necessarily represent views of my generation, my country, my industry, my organization etc.
Also, I did not search for any materials or use any technology to write my views. Any similarities, resemblance to any other articles or tag lines of organizations etc are purely coincidental.

3 个月Very well said Satya, issue isn't about forcing others to endure hardship simply because we did. Rather, it's about recognizing the privilege of struggle, the growth it brings, and the deep satisfaction it offers. Without the challenges, we risk losing the true value of our achievements. Moreover, as we embrace technology, there's a danger of losing our creativity, critical thinking, and emotional depth. The result is a growing sense of mental distress, frustration, and lack of empathy. Despite achieving great things in our careers, many of us feel unfulfilled, unable to balance work and life, and neglecting those who need us most—our families and communities. Our children, too, are increasingly disconnected, absorbed in their screens rather than in meaningful relationships. We often use the excuse of being busy with work to avoid connecting with our parents, spouses, and communities, leading to a further erosion of the bonds that truly matter. In the rush to make life easier with technology, we must not forget the joy, growth, and fulfillment that come from doing things ourselves, facing challenges, and building genuine connections with the people around us.

5 个月Thank you Deepak Satya sir. Very relatable and i second your thoughts completely. Learning, thinking and then putting into pen and paper has its own magic. And my sincere gratitude because I am privileged to have that first hand experience of working directly under your leadership.. I still remember that " 6 hours response writing on live screen sharing" without #chatgpt. Challenges and Pressure are the great teachers, I had that privilege and it's up to an individual, how he/she perceives it.

5 个月I had similar thoughts as I witnessed my son’s gut instinct to turn to chat gpt for help writing an essay recently. What is so bad about writing it yourself I asked him?
You are a great storyteller Deepak! Great to read your thoughts! Very different as you are!

5 个月Pressure is a privilege, Stress is a privilege! Very well said. Pressure makes us to do the right things at right time. It allows our brain to think fast and in the right direction. A good stress is beneficial to us too, it can help us with improving our motivation and performing the rightmost things. I still believe, AI cannot beat the human mind and its variance. Thanks Deepak for sharing the thoughts, have a good day ahead.
