Something to consider for 2023...

It’s that time of year where resolutions are made, and goals are set, and energy is high for the new year! Will this be the fresh start that so many folks long for? Will we lose steam before the proverbial train has even left the station? Are we, as a collective, hopeful or cynical for what is to come in this new year??
Personally, I don’t make resolutions. I’ve found it creates too much of a pass/fail environment to maintain motivation or creativity or flexibility… and those are things I really value. If you've sworn off resolutions because of the same (or maybe it was 2020 that ruined it for you when you declared it to be the 'best year yet' and then... well, you know.) consider this... What if we just picked a word? A single word (or short phrase — you don’t have to be too rigid with this) that becomes the lens in which you see and experience the world. What would that kind of focus look like?
Spoiler alert, it's amazing. You will love it. But keep reading!
Choosing a word is one of my favorite exercises that I’ve done personally, and observed others do individually, but the power of witnessing a business transform by using a single word is remarkable. That’s not to minimize the change or the experience of an individual. But there is a depth and richness that is found when you see a group of people leaning towards a shared goal that lights up that humanness in all of us.?
I invite you to consider this… what if, for this year, your business chose the word “Intentional”? And you announced to the company that this is the word for 2023. And that this word is for employees to run with and use however they see fit for their role. And that their goals should be made and measured with this word in mind. And that quarterly earnings would be presented with this word in mind. And that professional development, service projects and casual interactions in the hallway would be pursued with the same word.?
What would that do for your customers' experience? What would that do for your employees’ experience? What would that do to drive CULTURE and INTEGRITY? What would that do to ignite our HUMANNESS and HUSTLE? Would it bring greater ALIGNMENT to your organization??
It is definitely something to consider.
