Is there something better at delivering drug safety and product information than the omnipresent (and irritating!) patient information leaflet??

The legal requirement exists in most markets for the Pharmaceutical manufacturers, fillers and packers to ensure that each and every pack of drugs is accompanied by key product and safety information. But, is there a better way in delivering that key information??
Technology has advanced to the point where most of the Global population has access to the Cloud or internet. Smart phones are everywhere and smart codes are well known and adopted. So, leveraging the capabilities of these technologies must be an obvious next step.
Some statistics to shock
It is estimated that…….
a. between 50 and 70 billion patient information leaflets are supplied annually
b. if every PIL is the size of an A4 sheet
- 150,000 tonnes of paper annually
- 96,000 tonnes of CO2 produced
- 4.48 million trees to absorb the CO2 generated
c. the majority of PIL’s are not even read!!
So, why not start to migrate towards e-leaflets if the above isn’t a compelling reason?
