Someday at Christmas...

Someday at Christmas...

There's a song on my Spotify Christmas song list that I love to play right around now. Multiple times. Every holiday season:

Someday at Christmas (1967) by the great Stevie Wonder. It's a gem in terms of composition and delivery. That's Stevie.

But the power of the words. That may be the underrated Stevie.

"Someday at Christmas men won't be boys Playing with bombs like kids play with toys One warm December our hearts will see A world where men are free..."

Wow! That's big!

We can all hope and dream, right?!

Within the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the shopping, the parties, the travel, there's still time to hope and dream for better.

I'm feeling it, too, right now.

I'm feeling better times for this time of year. Better times for the construction industry.

Such as:

Someday at Christmas we'll build for everyone. ??

Think about a world where every architect's plan includes a place for everyone. Affordable housing, for example. Or high rise structures and single-family homes alike rise with a purpose to shelter, not just to profit.

Construction companies work in concert with developers and communities, creating spaces that feel like home to all.

And wouldn’t it be something if our industry solved homelessness? Picture the joy of seeing construction teams not just erecting luxury condos but also tiny homes for those in need.

Someday at Christmas? Maybe.

Someday at Christmas we’ll lay a greener foundation ??

I believe the future of construction is in its conscience. As we hope for peace on earth, let’s also imagine peace with earth. Zero waste job sites, materials sourced sustainably, and solar-powered cranes. The possibilities are as endless as our ambition.

Green building initiatives might still be a challenge today, but someday, we’ll see every project as an opportunity to heal the planet.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if our buildings didn’t just stand the test of time but also stood for a healthier tomorrow?

Someday at Christmas safety will be a given ????

No more “accidents happen” mentality. Instead, we’ll see an industry where safety is a culture not just a policy. Construction workers will go home to their families every night, unharmed and unburdened by unsafe practices.

And maybe, just maybe, we’ll develop helmets so high-tech they can read minds and predict risks. Too far-fetched? Stevie Wonder didn’t think dreaming was such a bad thing.

Someday at Christmas talent will shine like holiday lights ?

Recruitment will be strictly about building dreams. Fees won't matter. Candidates won’t just be names on resumes; they’ll have a soul and be treated as the future of our industry.

Someday at Christmas diversity and inclusion won’t be initiatives, they’ll be the standard. Women in hard hats, minorities on job sites, and everyone feeling like they belong. It’s a vision as bright as a lit-up Christmas tree, don't you think?

Someday at Christmas technology will work with us ??

Tech won’t replace us; it will elevate us. From AI-powered project management to drones mapping sites with Santa-like precision, the tools of tomorrow will make us smarter, faster, and more efficient.

Someday at Christmastime.

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
