Some Truths....

Some Truths....

Marilyn Taylor and I began a journey decades ago that had multiple crossroads. We shared our insights about the practices that seemed to affect those with whom we worked. We affirmed the evidence that bridging the know-do gap requires experiential learning. We found that Jung's suggestion to do "your inner work" was a great deal harder for ourselves and others than one might anticipate----and it is a perpetual undertaking. The consistently shown principle that you must differentiate before you can integrate kept showing up in our work with others.

Jung suggested that individuation was about developing the unique individual personality that is essential to fully integrate with and influence our life circles.

So Marilyn and I created a book on the tips and tactics we are offering free to anyone who asks. We do have some caveats:

(1) you do not need to accept or buy into the initial premises we’ve laid out in the first few chapters for the tactics and tips to be meaningful. ?We felt that to be intellectually honest, we needed to share some premises we have in the approach of this work. ?And we do believe that Martin Luther King and C.G. Jung were right on the human condition--namely, our interdependence.

(2) we suggest in numerous places that you should do a deep dive in the tactics that most suit you. ?For example, the use of Active Imagination deserves a book twice the length of the Individuate manuscript. ?We wanted to outline it for you in the hopes that it would encourage a deeper review. ?And in the use of it over the years, it has been a powerful source of getting individuals unstuck and seeing critical next steps in their growth.

(3) evidence is abundant that these tactics are useful at the right time and with competent facility. ?In recent years a combination of neuroscience and behavioral studies have shown the power of intentionality, and the dance between our conscious and unconscious energies which affect our well-being. ?We decided not to try to weigh down the manuscript with endless arguments or scientific evidence for what is suggested here. ?We know these work and if something isn’t suiting you, set is aside and instruct your brain to think about it. ? ?For example, APA’s recent publication of compilations of research on mindfulness is breathtaking in the richness of the power of this practice. If you ask GOOGLE SCHOLAR or go into APA research archives you’ll find what you are looking for if you need more evidence.

(4) it is difficult when you’ve been doing something for 45 years to remember all that experience has taught you. ?You adjust and tweak and integrate into your work and before you know it, you can no longer fully excavate all of the lessons. ?For example, I’ve been working with psychological type for 45 years and I can no longer see the model in simple terms and I don’t know how to help you see it for the richness it provides in understanding the patterns of perception and judgment. ?Further, my research using the data from the Center for Creative Leadership has informed me that the issue of how deeply an individual lives in a growth mindset determines degrees of effectiveness. ?We took a step back and asked simply, what do the long-time researchers in personality tell us are essential factors and we focused there.

(5) the cases provided are real, only the names have been changed.

(6) before you reject an idea, ask why it doesn’t appeal and find a safe way to test it before settling on a point of view.
