Some thoughts on the NBA, BARC,Republic TV and the LCN controversy

The Arnab Goswami headed Republic TV debut ratings have sparked off a furore in the English TV news channel space. Tempers have been running high and a lot of finger pointing is being resorted by the new entrant and older English news channels. BARC has been involved in the controversy because it released the ratings when it was told that alleged distribution abuse had resulted in the skewed ratings for Republic TV. TRAI has been rapping distribution platforms for taking money from the channel to put it on multiple LCNs. English news channels have stopped putting the watermark in their feeds, thus preventing BARC from monitoring their viewerships. Things seemed to have reached a stalemate. Today's meeting between the NBA and BARC will decide the way forward for the English news ecosystem.
