Some thoughts on the Cynefin Framework

Some thoughts on the Cynefin Framework

Began starts with chaos:

Chaos began with the Big Bang and since then the war between order (clear and complicated) and disorder (chaos and complex) is an ongoing battle. Marduk began to order the universe in finer and finer details and won the battle with Tiamat, but the war still has not finished yet.

The beginning of every activity is often chaotic. Lack of knowledge is the reason for being in a chaotic situation. Time brings the opportunity to gain more knowledge and form a better understanding and ultimately this results in moving to complex, complicated, and clear zones respectively.

APORETIC

Before the big bang, the universe was in an APORETIC state. Time brought an opportunity to Marduk to move the universe into COMPLEX, COMPLICATED, and CLEAR zones but because of the dynamicity of the universe, he never reached the end (Everything in CLEAR).

Chaos vs Complex, Complicated, and Clear:

Within all Cynefin zones, the chaos zone is the only zone that brings unsupervised learning opportunities. Unlike other zones where we respond based on some prior knowledge in the chaos zone we first act with not much domain knowledge and respond after learning by acting. Therefore, it is important to not neglect the necessity of chaos and remember that none of the domains are more desirable than the others. Plus, remember that the idea of the Cynefin Framework is not to push everything to the clear zone but rather to understand which zone we stand in and adapt our tools, actions, processes, and procedures based on (suitable) to that zone.

Order and Cohesion

Cohesion (essential coupling) is the cause of order. To reach order we need to establish essential coupling between elements of the universe. Different orders will require different couplings. However, ultimate cohesion could result in Chaos.

Silver-bullet

There is no one-size-fit solution. There is no silver bullet. Based on where the problem stands (Chaos, Complex, Complicated, and Clear) different solutions/tools, and actions are required. Therefore, Marduk is going to lose the war.

You drove us in an unsupervised learning path by bringing up such an chaos theory which is also pretty chaotic. Thanks for that! You have nice vacation in Lisbon :)
