Some things that Prime Minister Poilievre should start working on

Some things that Prime Minister Poilievre should start working on

It's time for a federal election, and I'm confident that the current election results in the United States have served as a training manual for political parties in Canada on how to win elections. I'm sure the Federal Liberals took notes and are now planning ways to stay in power indefinitely.

In a straw poll on ‘X’ I posed the question on how people felt about our current situation, and the results were overwhelming; 93% of participants want an election now!

You could argue against my results, but with over 800 reposts, and many opposing with sometimes "deranged" comments, the results are an indicator. I’m not the only one who has done this, and the results are all very similar. In addition, consider the polls currently being run by some of Canada’s pollsters. The governing Liberal Party continues to face public scorn, as it has for many months. Canadians are fed up with their insular government, and they don't care.

So, will we get a December election??Maybe in the Spring? That’s not likely to happen even though the NDP publically cancelled their agreement with the Liberal Party as a show to the populace that they aren't on a leash, only to continue to leverage their own position at taxpayers expense. Canadians deserve a 'Happy New Year's Gift'!?In the game of politics, this will more than likely play out until it’s intended in October of 2025.?The Bloc doesn't seem to be interested in rocking the boat until then, but why would you when your party uses the same ransom tactics for the benefit of their province or 20% of Canada's population? The rest of us, be damned!

If the majority get a favorable result in the election with a Conservative government, what’s next? What are the biggest priorities for this government to achieve that would make life more palatable and better in Canada??

Here are my thoughts! Some low hanging fruit would be to cancel the media funding, especially the billion plus dollars supporting the CBC. A national broadcaster was valuable to Canada in the 20th century; however, AI is expected to become a major interrupter in the near future. We've long since grown past bloated mainstream media with a plethora of new independent outlets competing with quality broadcasting and reporting.? Better yet, they don't require, or ask for, any tax dollar subsidies. In today's world, we have a choice and ‘we choose to pay for what we want’.

Eliminate the carbon tax 100%. It's a campaign promise by the opposition and it’s resonated with Canadians who are struggling to make ends meet. And a very touchy one is to reduce personal income taxes by 1-2%. Not to mention a need ‘to reduce spending’ along with it.?Why not a larger reduction you might ask? Well, Canada is well over a trillion dollars in debt, most of which was created in the last 9 years under the Liberal government. A Conservative government can't afford to lower taxes while servicing that kind of debt. You don’t have to be an economist to know that both reductions are long overdue!?Welcome to the sunny ways of "uncontrolled spending" and a "green dream" that no country has fully succeeded in achieving and never will. Just maybe it isn’t needed.?And, while we are at it, how about a full review of the Income Tax Act?

Reduce immigration targets back to normal levels or put it on hold for two years. Canada’s housing, schools, medical services, social programs and more are bursting at the seams with more customers than they can manage, and the staff and services are suffering along with it. In addition, we should be considering a complete overhaul of our immigration plan. Why aren’t transferable skills a priority when considering applications for new Candians? Particularly, when we know our birth to death ratio is one of the lowest of the G7 countries.?What are the reasons for that??Is the cost of living just too high to allow for more children, or have Canadians become so selfish or worried about the future of Canada that they only want 1.2 children?

For the longer-term view, lets accept that Canada is more than a "Virtue Signaling Green Utopia" that doesn't exist. However, what exists is the ability for Canada to become one of the major energy-producing capitals in the world. We not only have an abundance of resources and the technology to extract it while reducing emissions, but we can leverage that by ‘opening the doors’ to lucrative deals with countries in need of our clean energy. We ironically, and sadly, have turned them away over the last nine years. Imagine the wealth that we could have and would have generated for our country. That's the Canadian utopia we should be envisioning. ?

We know the Canadian healthcare system is in turmoil and no amount of money can fix it. We need to look at other countries with far more successful care systems. Dare I say because they share a public/ private health care partnership? I know this continues to be a sore spot for some, but it already exists in Canada on a much smaller scale. Emulating such systems along with their best practices will make Canada’s healthcare a leader once again.

Proportional representation remains a major sore spot'. This country is lopsided in favour of the East. Some will try to deny it, and some will tell me to stop whining, but it has never been more obvious than in the last nine years, or in the most recent example from Environment Minister Steven Gilbeault, who has capped emissions. This is targeting Alberta and Saskatchewan, and it will have a significant impact on Canada's GDP to the tune of billions of dollars lost. Policies that work in the east do not work in the west, right down to the appointed senate, which has devolved into satire. Over 90 countries use proportional representation to represent their populations better. This has been promised before but never fulfilled. It's long overdue!

What I am sure will be the most unpopular of all my suggestions is we have to scale back the public sector which has grown substantially larger per capita than any other G7 nation. Take the Canadian Revenue Agency, which employs 59,000 people for a population of 40 million. By comparison, the IRS in the United States employs 83,000 people for a population ten times our size. And most of all, for the amount employed, have we seen an improvement in government services??I’d say no, and currently, most Canadians would agree.?Particularly when it has been reported that overall, 100,000 more have been added to our government payroll over the past 9-years.

So yes, it’s high time for a federal election because it's obvious that the Liberal government and its platform are the furthest thing from what Canadians want or can afford. People are tired of the current politicians' vanity, ego, and ideologies. We just want to be listened to again! Is anyone listening?

Couldn’t agree more I will add tho on the immigration front, we have to make sure that we are very clear of all the different layers that we somehow bucket into “immigration” ~ illegals who cross our borders, TFW, Intl students, true refugees vs those who use the title refugee. Liberals admit to actually losing track of how many people have entered this country. That, is criminal & shows their incompetence The last point is, it will be imperative to make the change we all seem to want, that every Canadian, who is eligible to vote, gets off their butts and votes ???

Come on Shane I’m no fan of Trudeau eater but Poilievre? Way too far right, they already have a dictator in the United States coming up. Don’t need one here in Canada. The liberal government should have a leadership review and simply internally electsomeone better than Trudeau, but sorry I like the liberal values it’s halfway between left and right. I believe that’s where Canada needs to be, but I definitely agree that a bunch of his policies need to be changed like the carbon tax.

Did you know that New Zealand, a number of years back got a new government and cancelled the Climate Change Program. Then they were ousted and New Climate Change program was introduced. Now they are one of the very few countries well on their way to meet the required standards. So that is what will happen will Poilievre and we will be way behind, only to have a big change get on with what really needs to happen. No one in Alberta likes Trudeau and they blame him for everything even when it's an area that has nothing to do with the Liberals or federal government. Poilievre sounds good but there is Nothing behind his catchy statements; just like Trump.

I agree 100% with you Shane on your article here.....I heard it once say about us as Canada we probably could be the wealthiest country on earth but we have a lousy CEO.....If we had a Prime Minister that thought like a CEO instead of a communist we would flourish :)

It doesn't matter anymore in this country, all the parties and their leaders are the same. Who wants to elect someone who has turned the last term in parliament running an election instead of doing their job and running a country. Save the election BS for the election and get to work on improving Canada and bringing people together.
