SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
George Santayana made this important observation: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
If any discerning individual were to look at Adolph Hitler's presidential campaign in 1931 and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign rhetoric in 2024, they would see incredibly similar similarities.
HITLER’S CAMPAIGN MESSAGE
The Nazis started advocating clear messages tailored to a broad range of people and their problems. The propaganda aimed to exploit people’s fear of uncertainty and instability. These messages varied from ‘Bread and Work’ aimed at the working class and the fear of unemployment, to a ‘Mother and Child’ poster portraying the Nazi ideals regarding women.? Jews and Communists also featured heavily in the Nazi propaganda as enemies of the German people.
TRUMP’S CAMPAIGN MESSAGE
The Republicans started advocating clear messages tailored to a broad range of people and their problems. The propaganda aimed to exploit people’s fear of uncertainty and instability. Mexicans and foreigners are also featured heavily in the Trump propaganda as enemies of the American people.
