Some Thanksgiving Thoughts
Sitara Systems
We create interactive and immersive experiences that break down complex ideas, inspire reflection, and ignite curiosity.
As we gather with friends and family for Thanksgiving this year, we feel immensely grateful to see both new and familiar faces after the last few tumultuous years. Thanksgiving has a special relevance for us at Sitara Systems, because the modern holiday focuses on two ideas that are extremely important to our company's values: gratitude, and acknowledging the contributions of Native American people.
As we prepare for the holiday season, we wanted to take a moment to share our reflections.
Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful emotion that affects us in many subtle ways. The most important of these is that expressing gratitude induces positive emotions, not the other way around. Social psychology shows that happiness doesn't cause gratitude -- gratitude causes happiness!
Taking a moment to recount the things that you are grateful for, and taking a moment to express that gratitude, not only helps to make you happier, but also helps to build and strengthen social bonds.

Living in a more sustainable fashion will require us to want fewer things, and practicing gratitude helps us to make a bounty out of what we already have.
Acknowledging Indigenous People
Thanksgiving also provides a moment to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Native Americans, as well as acknowledging their contributions.
Sitara Systems is based in Las Vegas, the traditional home of the Nuwuvi tribe, also called the Southern Paiute Tribe. We like to use this time of year to remember and pay respect to the peoples who cultivated this wonderous and stunning landscape that inspires us each day. As we prepare our Thanksgiving meal, we also like to acknowledge that the table is set with crops and game indigenous to the Americas that are now ubiquitous around the world, like potatoes, squash, and chilles. These crops have been cultivated by indigenous people for generations with care to provide us with sustenance.
Finally, we'd like to set the intention that in 2023, we will find ways to get involved and support the vision of the Nuwuvi community here in Las Vegas so that we can be partners in building a more equitable future together.
