Some Sales Lessons from Dad
Dad was a salesman, could sell anything and sold many different things. He sold for his entire career.
Was he successful?
He made a living, bought a home, bought a vacation home, and managed to retire on income he had set aside.?
That is more than most people in sales can say.
What was his secret?
Dad taught respect.?
We don't give it because people earn it, but because of who we are and who God made them to be.
We do not wait to receive it. We initiate the process and influence the environment.
Dad taught me to be honest.
What you do it either right or wrong. If it is wrong, do not do it. If it is right, do it. If it is a fair price, that is what you charge. Deliver value because that is what you value.
Dad taught me to work hard.
Hard work is valuable in and of itself. Doing your best may not get outward rewards or recognition, but not doing your best deserves none.
Dad taught me that customers were always right - no matter how wrong they were.
So, treat them well. Find what they want and need and give it to them. Don't stop until they are happy.
Dad had this sentimental side that could not be hidden by his sometimes gruff exterior.?You are what you are. He led with his heart.
Dad could talk to anyone.?I thought he knew everyone and almost did.
That was his biggest secret, making friends before making customers. He genuinely enjoyed people and they knew it. He wanted to serve them and they wanted to do business with him.
It is really pretty simple. There are no gimmicks or secrets.
Get this and you can sell.

2 年Most Excellent Tom, perfect list of what people used to call common sense. It's sad to think that all children aren't taught those basic human interaction skills. Respect, honesty, hard work, it's OK to let the other person be right and every person is a friend I haven't met yet. Thank you for you great thoughts today!
