Some practical tips for online and face-to-face teaching
My beloved, 93 year old Dad died this week. We were very close and I'll miss him terribly, but he had a long, happy, active life, a relatively quick passing and I had the chance to say goodbye so I'm grateful for these things. I'm also really grateful for all of the emails I got last week and all the support on social media from so many of you. If I haven't managed to thank you personally, please know that I've read every single one and I'm a bit overwhelmed by your kindness. Thank you.
It's been a long week and a strange one, but writing the newsletter has been a bit grounding, so here we go...
Something old
If you're thinking about CELTA (or if you're a CELTA trainer looking for material for your trainees), there's obviously a lot on my site for you, but during the pandemic, I put together some resources especially for people who are taking the course online. It's completely FREE and has tips for online Teaching Practice, links to online demo lessons by experienced tutors and lots more.
Even if you're doing CELTA face to face, I think there are some things in there you might find helpful and (as with a lot of material that's aimed at trainees) there's also a lot that you'll like if you're a novice teacher.

Oh, and if you want to see a new (funny!) YT Short I made about the whole CELTA experience....CELTA be like...
Something new
My new video this week is all about using a Vocabulary Box. Do you have one of these? Ever used one? Are you currently thinking 'What the **** is a Vocabulary Box?!'.

Well, it's a bit Old Skool but there's nothing wrong with a reminder of a simple idea that works brilliantly (IMHO). So here it is! ... an explanation of what a Vocab Box is and five ideas for how to use one. Enjoy!
Something borrowed
As you're probably realising, there's nothing I like better than introducing you to people who've done my Video Creation for Educators programme (next cohort starts in July- just sayin'..) and this week it's the turn of Julie Lehner.
Julie is a brilliant teacher educator from Romania and she's got a FREE eBook for you with 7 days of Interactive Classroom Tasks. What's not to like? You can watch her video here where she'll tell you all about it and then go ahead and download the free eBook here . Let me know how you like it.
Finally, a small apology- there was a broken link in last week's email, so if you're interested in Martin Hajek's book 'More than a Gap Year Adventure' (I'd recommend it if you're in the early stages of your career), the link is here (I know it works this time- I checked!).

9 个月I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. It sounds like he had a full life and you have many wonderful memories of him. Thanks for the vocabulary box idea! I'm going to implement some version of this with my one-on-one classes.. I always keep a list of vocabulary we discuss during class but I haven't had a system for reviewing it, and I think this could work well! Sometimes (or usually?!) the simple ideas are the best!
