Some Networking Tips
There are many paths to growing a business. Advertising on television is one way, radio another way, print or on the Internet still another way and networking, and in my opinion, the networking is the most cost-effective way. TV, radio, print or the Internet can be costly and for certain types of business very cost effective. That said, a TV commercial for a car will sell the brand, but the individual salesperson stills sells the car to a prospect.?
There are some successful things you can do to make networking more successful for you. For example, try not to be fashionably late. Getting to your networking event early is a better line of attack for that people haven’t settled into groups as yet and things are usually calmer, less chaotic. Be pro-active and seek out people to speak to, don’t wait for them to come to you. Ask them easy questions like, “What do you do?” and then actively listen for the answer.?
Listening is a excellent way to get to know somebody. It’s important to remember that networking is the art of building relationships so really don’t go into your sale mode. People usually like to do business with people they like and whose company they enjoy. Be passionate about your business so share your passion. Share the geneses of the why you are in the business you are in. Always smile. By smiling you will put your nervous self at ease, and you will come across as warm and friendly.?
Your job is to make other people like you enough to recommend you to their clients and friends so make the person you’re speaking with make them feel special. Be conversational not a talker. Networking is where a conversation begins, not where it ends so don’t forget to always follow up. Find out how they like to keep the conversation going; e-mail, Linkedin, phone, or in person. Then follow up within forty-eight hours.?
