Some learning never go Waste

Some learning never go Waste

Some of lessons learned during my Experience in the corporate world would like to share with friends and colleagues. Some you may feel quite obvious but Trust me obvious things are not very obvious always :-

?1. Small early stage investment is better than large single /lumpsum investment - The same is true either we relate to financial matters or matters related to our career progression.

If you get an opportunity in a small company having strong presence in core area of your choice , even though it may be offering you slightly low salary go for the latter . Similarly building a strong foundation will help you to sustain in long term.

?Invest in career building through learning new skillsets , developing your interpersonal skills in initial phase of the career rather than a small insignificant role in a large company.

?2. Learning attitude – Be flexible to learn new technologies , product and applications and if possible in different functional roles rather than working on a skewed sector in a regular role. The same doesn’t applies to R&D professionals J. Learning is a continuous process and doesn’t get determined with age and position. If you feel there is something interesting to learn be open to humbly seek help , doesn’t matter who is your mentor ( your senior or your junior)

?3. Be a good listener – As per survey 95% of the people think they are good listeners but they retain only 50% of what others and worse if you start observing them closely they are only passive listener and mostly waiting to say something to counter the opposite person/ speaker ?rather than listening important points. A good listener tend to make suggestion rather than arguments. They are collaborative with an open mind to learn and share. Even if they need to put an argument for a wrong statement they listen and collect the facts to put a reasonable argument.

?BE A GOOD LISTENER , BE PATIENT AND KEEP A COLLBORATIVE ATTITUTE.

?4.Don’t get into a comfort groove be adaptive ?– We as human being have a natural tendency to get into a comfortable space in our early career phase which is heavily influenced by external environment (Society and family pressure) . This may have short term benefits but may jeopardise our growth in long run. If an individual is getting good opportunities and growth , it means he is pushing his boundaries and its reciprocate well by the organisation. At the same time if an individual feels , he is stuck to a mundane/regular work and work environment is not very supportive, it is good to take early call rather than repenting at the latter age.

?5. Don’t be judgemental – As the works adage “ Never judge a book by its cover “ its stands true perpetually , respecting your teammates and colleague in society and organisation will only help you to be more empathetic and develop your people management and interpersonal skills . Every individual has his own expertise and limitation. Never underestimate others or yourself at any point of time.

?6. Respectful workplace – Our behaviour and the organisational policy play an important role in Creating a respectful workplace where organisation and society thrives benefitting everyone. Specially all the Business leaders and we as individual have moral responsibility to contribute towards the objective. Gone are the day where Bullying/ Shouting and reprimanding someone was seen as an improvement step to get situation under control.

?A business leader who is more empathetic and having strong EQ ( Emotional quotient) generally provides good results to his organisation and team and gains respect of his team and colleagues.

?

7. Ready to say NO- This is the most challenging task any individual can face while dealing with society and organisation. If you feel you are pressurised or put into a uncomfortable space which doesn’t match with your expertise and aptitude , learn to sat NO clearly. Don’t wait for the situation to be worse as it will have repercussion on organisation and yourself.

?

There is always an exception if situation needs you urgently to support based on situational obligation but it’s has to be made clear the timelines and exigency.

?

8. Work on Present Capability not on past accolades – Many of us wish to boast our past accolades rather than focussing on present priorities and deliverables. It’s obvious that past accolades may support us for short term but gaining respect in present work environment is purely based on your proven capability that we demonstrate on concurrent work assignments.

?

9. Situational assessment – Situation management and situational leadership is one of the most important traits that an individual should try to demonstrate while dealing with everyday challenges and work environment. The leadership and work style could be Delegating , Supporting ,Coaching and Directing while dealing with situation and work assignment. The person should be good to navigate in between the different leadership styles between his colleagues and subordinates.

?

10. Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills – As per study an active collaborative environment with Interpersonal and relationship building skills will solve 85% of the known challenges either in works or social environment. Be open and approachable to your friends and colleagues apart from supporting and seeking support in time of need for yourself and others.

?

11. Stay Motivated & Stay Energised – I believe this is one of the most important learning which most of us should follow and absorb in true sense.

Your office and your work is only one part of you , it’s not all of you . Keep a healthy work life balance. Work should never be compromised and at the same time cannot be over delivered at the cost of your health . You are the custodian of your health and life so take the responsibility accordingly.

Very well said, Suvendu. I'll just add that in one's early career, one should say Yes to pretty much every ask, that goes a long way in learning and as you said, it doesn't go to waste.
