Some compliance trivia questions – do you know the answers?
Here are three questions only for those interested in trivial parts of our field’s history:
1. LRN is a provider of online compliance training, founded by Dov Seidman. What do the letters “LRN” stand for?
2. SAI is also a provider of online compliance training. What do the letters “SAI” stand for? (Kirk Jordan and I founded Integrity Interactive, which we and our colleagues subsequently sold to SAI Global)
And here is one I don’t know, but have always wondered about. Very early on in the development of our field, the folks at Bentley University helped form what was then called the EOA, or Ethics Officer Association. (Note, for all those who over the past 30 years have been telling us “ethics” or “values” needed to replace a legalistic approach to our field, those of us doing compliance & ethics work have been including that focus since the beginning). This group later became the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association, and then merged into ERC. So here is the mystery:
3. For EOA, Why was it “Officer” singular in the name, rather than the plural (“Officers”)?
I once wrote to my friends in the EOA and quoted what Voltaire said about the Holy Roman Empire (It wasn’t holy, it wasn’t Roman and it wasn’t an empire.) I suggested they change the name to include compliance and to make clear that it wasn’t just for officers. They did add “compliance.”
NB: My answers to the first 2 questions are based on my having been around at the time for each organization. It is always possible someone else will have a different explanation.
For extra credit, here is a trivia question that is not so trivial:
1. Which one of these three terms does NOT appear in the US Federal Sentencing Guidelines: a) incentives; b) code of conduct; c) industry practice.

3 年I am going to break the suspense! Here is the last question: ?????Which one of these three terms does NOT appear in the US Federal Sentencing Guidelines:??a) incentives; b) code of conduct; c) industry practice. There is no reference to "code of conduct" in the Sentencing Guidelines.

3 年No one has tried to answer the last question from the Sentencing Guidelines - maybe they just missed that it was there? I sure hope no one thinks it is difficult.
