Some of the best Twitter chats around (for content and social folk)

Some of the best Twitter chats around (for content and social folk)

I began to compile this list on New Year’s Eve (2020) whilst waiting for a Nigella recipe (her long-established ‘chicken and pea tray bake’) to reach its potential in the oven.

At the time of writing, I’ve had three glasses of rosé Prosecco, and I’ve been wanting to publish a page about Twitter chats for months, so thought I may as well grasp the nettle and get on with it, because, yes, it’s New Year’s Eve - but no, I’m not going anywhere or doing anything else of note, so…

In all seriousness, having been involved in #ContentClubUK for over two years now, I have of course noticed other Twitter chats going on elsewhere. And I don’t think it would be too audacious of me to declare that there are loads of Twitter chats out there that offer real value.

Whether you’re an in-house employee or a full-time freelancer, finding time to take part in at least one Twitter chat every so often is usually time well spent. As well as learning new things and sharing knowledge, it can be a brilliant opportunity to meet new, like-minded professionals AND perhaps even become part of a warm and active virtual community (linked to your field or industry).

I know from speaking to people who take part in #ContentClubUK that, for some, it can be a great little ‘lift’ for freelancers (and perhaps right now, new-to-home-working-workers too) who might be feeling a bit isolated, too.

And lastly, taking some time to participate in a profession-related Twitter chat can of course be an important opportunity for content and social folk to simply take a break from the daily grind, and get some different ‘work-related’ perspectives from peers.

There are some brilliant regular chats out there, so I thought I’d pull together a little list for everyone (in no particular order of greatness!), noting the salient details of each. (NB: This is by no means an exhaustive list, and it might be that I add more to this over time, depending on which other ones I spot/get tipped off about!)

1. The #ContentClubUK chat

Well, of course we’ve got to mention #ContentClubUK in this list! What am I, nuts?

The weekly Twitter chat for content creators (freelance or in-house) happens every Tuesday at 11am (UK time).

There’s a different host each week, and a ‘special guest’ host each month.

Find the chat thread by searching for the #ContentClubUK hashtag. You can also follow the likes of me and monthly Open Mic host André Spiteri as we both Tweet about the chat on a regular basis.

2. The Content Marketing Institute’s #CMWorld chat

I do usually love what Content Marketing Institute’s (CMI) up to anyway, but their weekly chat is another strong offering. #CMWorld has been going for quite a while now.

Join the CMI every Tuesday at 5pm (UK time) for discussion around key content marketing topics. Simply locate the #CMWorld hashtag on Twitter to join the conversation, and follow the @CMIContent account whilst you’re at it!

You can also Tweet at @CMIContent to offer speaker suggestions or topic ideas for upcoming chats. The button below will also take you off to their latest schedule. ????

5. Social Media Today’s #SMTLive

The #SMTLive Twitter chat, hosted by the folk at Social Media Today, takes place every Tuesday at 5pm (UK time).

Whilst it used to be a twice monthly chat, they’ve recently increased the frequency to weekly to provide more opportunities for social media professionals to connect during the pandemic.

The chat is advertised as an event which brings together social-focused marketing professionals in a group chat to discuss, share and learn about what's new in social media and digital marketing.

Social Media Today say: “If you are a curious and ambitious, social media marketer, you should probably be following us on Twitter @socialmedia2day and use the hashtag #SMTLive to join in the conversation.”
