This blog is not written with the view of upsetting anyone nor is it done to gloat. I am writing this because I am so passionate about improving the industry I work in and trying to bring it into the modern world. Why? Let me explain below.
Estate agency is an industry that works on a high turnover, high cost, low-profit percentage in comparison to the average business model. The result of this is normally under-experienced workforces or understaffed workforces when compared to the volume of work required in a team. FOMO; this a huge issue in my industry and because of this industry of magpie-minded business owners we find ourselves in an industry of vanilla. Basically, everyone does or wants the same sh!t when it comes to marketing.
When I started a 19 year old agent back in 2003 I was given one of the most important jobs in the office - month one too! Leaflet drop the area. In my suit. In my work shoes. On my own. I smashed the hell out of that box of leaflets. I may have even been given an award for it... Fast forward 20 years and my industry still love a leaflet.
Cost of living crisis, shortage of labor, an environmentally friendly generation growing and my industry is happy to chop the trees themselves if it means upping the leaflet KPIs for their office.
I write this blog because I want people to see the long game win here and not to gloat or to upset anyone. Someone will comment "Leaflets Still Work", and yes of course they do in context. If I spent my whole day asking people in the street for a haircut from a hairdresser, at some point I would find someone. Or I could just google it.
Let's compare like for like... if 250,000 leaflets are dropped by two people, daily, doing 200 per day each for 60mins would take 'just 625 days'. The cost of print, design etc... would cost circa 50k? After the ambitious 2-year campaign comes to an end I think we would all expect to have a few MAs booked right? Well, for 625hrs work and 50 grand, we would bloody hope so!!!
Flip it on its head: One market update campaign video.

Time to make it = 3hrs.
Cost of YouTube and Meta Ad = £336.16
Time to make adverts = 30mins (from a desk in the warm). I get my steps up through ultra running if you wondered.
Time to complete campaign = 28 days. (597 days faster).
If leaflet dropping was banned tomorrow, all estate agents would improve overnight. There would be better use of time, better use of money and better quality of service for the public too.
