I've got traffic but no sales! It's the complaint I hear from a lot of digital entrepreneurs about their new eCommerce website. So today, we are going to tackle this head-on and learn how to diagnose why you are getting traffic but no sales.
This complaint is most often heard from new eCommerce entrepreneurs and especially those that use Shopify. Whilst Shopify is easy to set up and also quite straightforward to use Shopify's Facebook marketing to generate traffic through ads. However, this doesn't get the sales that people are hoping for and so, at this stage, they reach out to get help. Surely if you build a website, and get enough people to it they will buy, right?
I'm going to answer this question in the context of the Jersey Framework that I talked about in my blog post.
Jam Jar - Curate high-demand products that create profit through knowable sales patterns. The first real problem people face is products. Just going to AliExpress and choosing a handful of products and putting them on your website is not going to work. Look again at the aim here - you are after High Demand products. Products that come from AliExpress may not be that, and can often be a ‘race-to-the-bottom’ with pricing, and this rarely creates profit. Also, notice that you need knowable sales patterns. Just putting stuff on your site doesn’t mean that you have understood the sales patterns.
Engineer - Build an adaptable platform that provides the best buying experience and integrates with your business systems. Normally the core of the site is OK if you are on Shopify. The issue tends to be with the design of the site, not the core of the site.
Resonate - Create the best buying experience for your customer. Shopify is great because you don’t need to code or have development experience but because everyone can use it, it often means the design is very amateurish. This turns people off very very quickly. You don’t need to be a designer to build the site. But if you don’t know what you are doing, you can create an amateur looking site really easily and think it looks great. It's really important to spend time understanding how a website creates the best customer journey.
Send - Find your customers and direct them to your website so that they buy from you. The key is to consider the quality of your traffic source. Is the source targeted to your niche? Is it the best traffic you can find?
Experience - Curate the best digital experience for your customers and the best real experience too. A five-week delivery service doesn’t do that.
Yo-yo - Work hard to build a repeatable and referable business.
It’s impossible to do this when you haven’t even got the first sale yet.
You can use the Framework to work through your website and solve this key eCommerce issue of 'traffic but no sales' on your website.
