Solving Problems for the Problem Solvers

Madeium Staff

In last week’s?Office Hours, Jesse Rademacher commented, “Sometimes designers can be kind of grumpy.”

“That’s because design is about?problem solving?and designers can often?look?for problems.”

We look for problems because it is the beginning of the design process. The end consumer’s pain points establish the road map for creating solutions that are functional, profitable, and aesthetically pleasing.

To move from pain points to finished product is what the design process is all about. It is enormously complex as we must juggle a myriad of concerns and stakeholders while acting as the glue that holds the vision.

Within the corporate setting, this complexity is often aggravated by a system that thwarts and derails our best efforts. We face problems far beyond our professional responsibilities and to date, little effort has been given to finding solutions for us—the problem solvers.

Solving problems for the problems solvers is the core of Madeium’s mission. We have looked carefully at the pain points of designers and we are turning the design process back on our profession to dismantle the roadblocks to our creativity.?Designers?are our end consumer.

Madeium currently rests on 4 pillars. More will be added over time, but right now our foundational solutions are centered in the following initiatives:

  • A?Creative Network?that is of, by and for designers,
  • Creative Tools?that ease the burden of creating your own business,
  • Manufacturing?to bring your creations into tangible expression,
  • A?Marketplace?where you can monetize your creative outputs.

In future articles we will dive more deeply into each of these. Right now, it is important to understand that these initiatives are all aimed at solving pain points that designers and creatives have been facing for centuries.

Together, the Madeium pillars place the designer in a position of authority to make decisions—to be the architect overseeing the entire process of product creation from beginning to end.

And why shouldn’t designers be in charge? Why shouldn’t we own the rights to our creations and profit from them?

After all, we are the ones creating the real value. We are the primary ingredient for a successful and profitable solution for the end consumer.

Madeium’s 4 pillars may look simple, but there is lots of magic hidden within each one of them. Together, they form the foundation for a new renaissance—a reimagining of what the design profession can, and should, be.

These solutions are also reflective of rapidly changing business and societal environments. New approaches are possible now that would have been impossible in the past. Upcoming articles will tease out the implications of these radical changes and illuminate how Madeium is uniquely positioned for these unprecedented times.

So, stay with us. We think you will be blown away when you begin to grasp the scope of what we have been building over the past 3 years.

And give us your feedback! Your voice is crucial in refining how Madeium evolves, for?you?are an essential part of the design process that is solving problems for the problem solvers.
