Solving Problems - a New "Ten Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel" Blog

I have posted a new "Ten Things You Need to Know as In-House Counsel" blog. This edition talks about how to "solve problems" as an in-house lawyer. To cut to the chase, it is very different from solving problems as outside counsel to the company. It is also something that is rarely taught, let alone discussed. To read the post, click HERE. And, I am excited to start year 11 of the blog! Thank you to everyone who reads it and passes it along to others!

Excellent article on how to problem solve as an in-house lawyer! One of the things I like to do is work backwards. I start with where we currently are (the problem or gap) and then envision the desired end result and try mapping out steps in between to try to connect those two points as efficiently as possible.

I discovered your blog a few months ago and I’ve been voraciously reading them ever since. This latest article is another great read. I especially like your comparison between how lawyers and business people think. It’s really a different paradigm, one which I’ve learned is necessary to be successful in-house. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with the rest of us.
