Solving the problem of how anyone can get instant gratification & change the world for the better
We live in a world that most of us, would like to change for the better. The problem is many do not think they have the ability / power / circumstances where their actions can bring about change. The way to solve that problem is changing the way you think about it. It is solved with acceptance of the butterfly effect & the snowball effect. Essentially the good you do will have an effect on others that through that effect & the effect it cause from the good that person does (and so on & so on) WILL make changes for the better in world. You may not notice it, & perhaps it may take hundreds of years before this continued butterfly effect makes very noticeable changes to the world, but you will have changed the world for the better. The trick is, once you understand and accept this and let go of your desire to see the change right here and now, then your actions will become instantly gratifying because you know, you are changing the world for the better. It might take 5 or 500 years, but you have made the world a better place.
This is a world where people's actions are more and more driven by receiving instant gratification. Ironically to change the world for the better, once you let go of the need of for instant gratification, then all your actions become instantly gratifying (because you understand the butterfly & snowball effects you are initiating).
The Butterfly Effect is a principle of Chaos Theory, which says that even the smallest of occurrences, such as the flutter of a butterfly's wings, can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. If you do "little" good deeds, are helpful to others, kind, just those things will make some changes positive changes in others. For the snowball effect; metaphorically, a snowball effect is a process that starts from an initial state of small significance and builds upon itself, becoming larger and perhaps potentially be beneficial in a virtuous cycle (refers to complex chains of events which reinforce themselves through a feedback loop).
Did you know that your smile is actually contagious? The part of your brain that is responsible for your facial expression of smiling when happy or mimicking another’s smile resides in the cingulate cortex, an unconscious automatic response area. In a Swedish study, subjects were shown pictures of several emotions: joy, anger, fear and surprise. When the picture of someone smiling was presented, the researchers asked the subjects to frown. Instead, they found that the facial expressions went directly to imitation of what subjects saw. It took conscious effort to turn that smile upside down. So if you’re smiling at someone, it’s likely they can’t help but smile back. If they don’t, they’re making a conscious effort not to.
Be kind to others, be helpful when you can, show respect, have empathy for your fellow humans (& animals). It is the simple acts of goodness that allows any of us, to become world changers. To quote John Lennon "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I am not the only one, I hope some day you will join us and the world will be as one".
This is a world where people's actions are more and more driven by receiving instant gratification. Ironically to change the world for the better, once you let go of the need of for instant gratification, then all your actions become instantly gratifying (because you understand the butterfly & snowball effects you are initiating).

7 年I can only agree with your words, great text. Used each effect many times ;) it was the only way to do any change to better anywhere, how ever small it was. No credits taken for most but well, others need to feel they are doing something I guess.

7 年Love this!! In a society full of people wanting instant results, immediate gratification and notoriety of good deeds, society fails to realize that is not what is important. What is important is the genuine act of kindness, no matter how small, is an individual's way to help a massive shift in the world for the better. Seeking instant gratification and wide spread results is, in its own way, selfish. The smile you gave the homeless person whom you will most likely never see again may have a huge impact on that person. Will you ever know that, more than likely no. Does this mean that very small act should not be done, no. For those truly wanting to help others and help the world become a better place, self gratification and acknowledgment of your actions should not be a factor. Smile at everyone no matter how you truly feel inside. Help, in any way you can, others put a smile on their face. Give as freely as you can, and expect nothing in return. Kindness is a selfless act, one that so easily can help cause changes in society for the better.
