Solutions are plenty but adoption will take time

Dear Asian Agribiz Community Member,

VIV Asia 2023 may have ended on March 10, but we are still receiving a deluge of follow-up emails and thank you notes. The show which featured solutions from feed to fork was extensive and well received.

Re-socializing aside, it gave exhibitors and visitors alike an opportunity to reconnect and move the industry forward, despite the challenges.

Tune in here if you’re too busy to read.

After a four-year break, what stood out was the many solutions presented to address the labor crunch, advance the sustainability agenda, enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and promote animal welfare. But adoption may take time because of the current economic woes.

Keeping in step with cost cutting?Nabel Asia?introduced an economical option for egg producers who want to start having their eggs collected and packed automatically. It only needs 2sqm to install and collects and packs eggs at a capacity of 36,000 eggs/hour.

Similarly,?Phospea introduced Hum Iphora, a patented organic-mineral complex developed as a unique feed material that optimizes nutrients in the broiler gut - a solution that is crucial when feed costs are high. "It is a phosphate that provides high-quality phosphorus and contributes to better use of other nutrients, specifically plant‐based phosphorus," Caroline Biard, Director of Marketing and Innovation, told?Asian Agribiz.

With an expansive booth and a tag 'Imitation is just another way of flattering',?Big Dutchman?began its VIV rendezvous on the eve of the show with a cage-free farming seminar. Dietmar Tepe, Managing Director of KAT from Germany encouraged Asian producers to engage early in cage-free farming, to leverage the opportunity of premium prices. The company also promoted its farm waste management solution as well as its latest initiative in large scale insect farming through its new subsidiary Better Insect Solutions.

Agco GSI also focused on labor scarcity and promoted its digital solutions. “Systems like the?Edge 2 Controller?are available for forward-thinking producers,” Derek Lin, Vice President and Managing Director Apac, told?Asian Agribiz. “It is a single platform with online remote access that is versatile and intuitive and can be configured to specific requirements."

The pig sector was also in clear focus with Ceva demonstrating its?Easi (Easy Swine Injector) system?to quell stress in piglets and farm workers during vaccination. It is an open, smart needle device compatible with different products, minimizing the need for various injection devices. Easi also has alerts and sensors to ensure correct and successful vaccine administration.

Similarly Lubing promoted odor and dust-free pig sites with its?CleaningCubes, a modular air purifier that can be retrofitted to existing closed houses and expanded as needed. In the CleaningCubes, each exhaust fan is followed by its own ChemCube to wash dust and ammonia from the exhaust air.

The solutions and innovations presented were interesting and extensive, but the expanse of the show made it impossible to view all in three short days. Lookout for more coverage at?www.asian-agribiz.com?as well as in our magazines.

Kind regards,

Conny Pereira, Editorial Director
