Solution focused rant!

Solution focused rant!

I very rarely rant. But when something crosses my value sets and impacts family members, I am up for a solution focused rant.

The facts are, whilst Government and their distributed network, has done a fabulous job in managing multiple aspects of the medical response to Covid, they need to be very careful now that they look after those they may rely on most going forward. Under our current model, GP’s put private equity and emotional energy at risk in their dual role of private business owners and those who deliver many centralised government services. GP’s are now understanding, like others, the pandemic economic pain to small business. But at moments where they need air cover most in the delivery of their services for Government, they have been left high and dry.

So lets get solution focused:

  • Government has the resources to work out in simple terms where the supply chain blockages are for flu vaccines (perhaps they have had some practise with the same exercise for PPE).
  • Government has become expert at standing up call centres quickly – the time is here now for one to deal with flu vaccines – a centralised hot line, for those closest to the understanding of the supply chain, to deal with irate customers who are currently calling GP’s (who don’t have facts or information).
  • Get the white board and marker pens out. Draw your supply chain. Now. How many vaccines are going into the funnel, where are they in the first line of distribution (with data), and where are they in the second and third lines of distribution (with data).
  • Publicise and communicate the facts. I understand that comms is sometimes delivered to create hope and keep people calm. Now though is the time for fact (supported by published and real data).

Apologies are a start. But now is the time to act on these small but important issues in a time of much stress for GP’s in their dual role. There are plenty of highly experienced people and tools that exist to support these solutions - I was only reading last night the great work that some of our best are currently helping the Australian Government with this same type of work!

Please. No lies, no rhetoric – just facts – and its time to give GP's true air cover.

Agree, we have to have trust and that come with transparency. If a vaccine for the virus were to eventuate then we need to trust the MOH supply chain.

Dave well said. I am not sure why it needs to be so hard? If you apply first principles as you suggest the solution can be implemented very quickly.
