Solomon Islands Constitution Protects a Free Press

My rights to post my articles on the Solomon Islands Facebook page which I have done for many, many years have been blocked and all my posts have been from wholly verifiable information, and, in my opinion, the blocking of my truthful and verifiable posts is an abuse of fundamental rights as laid down in the Solomon Islands Constitution for a free press.

On 3 April 2021, Solomon Islands Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, MP, wrote, and I quote.

The fundamental right of freedom of expression will continue to enjoy constitutional recognition in Solomon Islands.

The Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the assurance during the World Press Freedom Day celebrations on 3rd April.

Speaking on this year’s theme of Information as a Public Good, Prime Minister Sogavare said, the theme is indeed fitting and relevant for our country.

The Prime Minister adds, it underlines the indisputable importance of verified and reliable information.

As a good friend of the Solomon Islands for more than 27 years to date during which time I have aided the country with hospital equipment and supplies, supported the disabled and given support to all issues having an impact on the reputation and good name of the country, but by blocking my posts, without any good reason or cause, I have been given nothing less than a slap in the face for my years of dedication and selfless voluntary service without even a word of thanks.
