Solo, but not alone

Solo, but not alone

As a solo consultant, you don't technically have to answer to a boss. (Your spouse, kids, mortgage lender, etc might disagree.)

This can make it particularly challenging to do some of those things you don't really want to do.

For some of those tasks, like taxes, the government has laws and penalties that mean you'll figure out how to get your taxes filed.

For some other tasks, like following up with people-- not cold calling, just following up with people who will appreciate a call from you-- it's.a bit harder.

You suddenly notice so many things that you simply must do right away.

  • Oh look-- several hundred new unimportant emails to process!
  • I should really read some awesome content on LinkedIn that will help me avoid procrastinating on these follow-ups. (See what I did there?)
  • Let me finally schedule that overdue dentist appointment.
  • A little bit of calisthenics will surely improve my overall productivity...

And so on and so forth...

We have ways of dealing with this issue. Study groups helped keep me on track in school. Having workout buddies helped me get in some exercise even when I wasn't feeling very motivated.

What about your follow ups?

(Note, if you're in Mimiran, your Peer Conversation Leaderboard gives you some accountability/encouragement.)

Do you have a bunch of people you need to follow-up with? Do you have some time at 3CT this afternoon?

Join the Outreach Party (thanks Jason Van Orden -- who is wonderful at naming things for the moniker).

We'll hop on a zoom, get introduced, have a chance to ask questions, then hit the mute button and go have those follow-up conversations, then come back for the last few minutes to review how it went.

(Register here.)

Just because we're solo, doesn't mean we have to be alone.

Due to my reading of Reuben Swartz's newsletter last week, I have been very, very diligent in my follow up. And my Cup of Results thus runneth over. But also, I am incredibly, incredibly good at doing important work like organizing my leggings drawer!

Reuben, the struggle of staying on top of follow-ups is real! I love the idea of an Outreach Party! Count me in. Incidentally, I am co-working with some of my clients right now as I engage with content on LinkedIn.

So good!!!! Yes! And this: "A little bit of calisthenics will surely improve my overall productivity... " Thank you, Reuben Swartz, for getting into my head. I need to clear things up in there before your next post--and your next report of what is happening to ME! I will have to join you and Jason Van Orden the next time you do this!
