THE SOLD-OUT EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM: INTEGRATED LEADERSHIP KICKS OFF SECOND SESSION
Energy Workforce & Technology Council
Empowering the Energy Workforce of the Future
The Executive Leadership Program: Integrated Leadership, in partnership with Heidrick & Struggles, held its second session last week. The program equips participants with the skills and tools to effectively lead their teams and become intentional leaders. Advisory Board Member Douglas Orr and Laura Gironda , Principal, Heidrick & Struggles , led and facilitated the program.
Energy Workforce President Molly Determan delivered the opening remarks. Determan welcomed participants and reviewed program expectations with them.
Over 50 participants attended in person and virtually, and they had the opportunity to engage in breakouts and discussions with their peers. They discussed how to effectively delegate and how the treatment of others can impact the workplace culture.
Participants focused on the difficulties leaders may initially have when delegating and how they can effectively combat these challenges. They learned that as leaders, it is crucial to have patience and trust their team to do their tasks correctly.?
“A big fear as a leader when delegating is letting go and having the patience to get up and continuously try again alongside our team to ensure everyone becomes an expert in all areas. It can be difficult to let go because of our fear of failure. We don’t want to let our team down, but learning how to let go and pass down responsibilities is how we all grow and become successful.”– Participant
The group also discussed how to navigate treating employees based on different scenarios and the overall impact of each treatment. Attendees had the opportunity to dive into different perspectives from their peers and further understand how leaders can choose to handle different scenarios. These discussions allowed them to learn how to lead and redirect their team down the right path.

They wrapped up the day with participants reflecting on and sharing their key takeaways from the session. ?
“One thing that stuck with me is how important it is to recognize that everyone on the team, including those not directly in leadership positions, are leaders. Everyone is impactful and can contribute a lot to an organization’s culture no matter what their position or title is.”– Participant
In addition to the seminars for these yearlong programs, participants engage in leadership development activities outside their company. They also attend at least two Energy Workforce leadership meetings, such as leadership forums, where participants engage and network with energy leaders from across the industry. The program includes executive coaching from Heidrick & Struggles and valuable mentorship from the Energy Workforce’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board members. This gives participants a unique opportunity to receive strategic career advice and to develop relationships with industry leaders.
