Solaris Electrifying Launch at Busworld – Urbino 18 electric
2023 LAUNCH: Solaris Urbino 18 electric
?? STRONG POSITION IN ZERO-EMISSION PORTFOLIO?
The Solaris Urbino 18 electric, with its enhanced design, represents another milestone for our company in the development of electric bus technology. It's an emission-free vehicle that's exceptionally quiet, ensuring safety and comfort for both passengers and drivers while offering an impressive range and operational capabilities.?
?? NEW GENERATION BATTERIES | 600 KM RANGE?
The premiere bus sets the highest standard in transportation. Built on a new drivetrain architecture and the latest battery technology, the Urbino 18 electric guarantees all-day operational capability and exceptional performance for transport operators. The bus is equipped with a 240 kW asynchronous motor and Solaris High Energy next-generation batteries, known for their high energy density, which translates to a long operational range while maintaining low weight.??
Batteries are located on the roof of the vehicle. A total battery capacity of over 800 kWh results in outstanding ranges, offering up to 600 km of emission-free travel (based on energy consumption measurements in e-SORT 2 tests).?
?? CHARGING POWER?
Similar to our other articulated platforms with zero-emission propulsion, the Urbino 18 electric offers several charging options. The base solution used in the trade fair model is a plug-in socket located above the first axle on the right side of the vehicle. Other available options include charging via a pantograph or a so-called inverted pantograph mounted on a charging station.?
?? NEW DRIVETRAIN ARCHITECTURE?
The bus stands out with a new design, planned without the traditional engine tower. Instead, a modular drivetrain architecture with components on the roof and the rear of the vehicle has been adopted. This solution maximizes passenger space, simplifies maintenance, and provides great configuration flexibility, allowing for versatile use of the roof surface. The maximum number of passengers that can travel on board the Urbino 18 electric is up to 145 people (for a DMC of 29 t).?

?? FULL SAFETY?
The Urbino 18 electric complies with all safety standards, including cybersecurity, as well as new GSR2 requirements that will apply to newly registered vehicles from July 2024. The new design, combined with high-performance batteries, advanced ADAS systems, and safety-enhancing solutions, defines the Urbino 18 electric. All of this in a dynamic and modern style that our company has been offering to its customers for years.?
?? WHAT'S NEXT??
Is this our final word regarding the development of our zero-emission products? Absolutely not! Dariusz Michalak, CTO of Solaris, revealed the behind-the-scenes of the next project during the Busworld trade fair:?
"We are very proud of the product presented in Brussels at the Busworld trade fair. Currently, we are working on a 12-meter bus that will be built using similar technology. We are focusing on operating costs, reliability, and durability, we are focusing on TCO, but above all on safety - the safety of passengers and other road users."?
