Following a relatively stable CW50 where most products listed in the TaiyangNews PV Price Index were steady WoW, prices declined once again in Calendar Week 51. While only 2 polysilicon types lost value, price declines were pretty much widespread further downstream.

Compared to CW50 where all polysilicon types listed kept their levels, Chinese polysilicon and reusable varieties were down -0.8% and -2.4%, respectively, in CW51.

In CW51, all wafer types listed lost value in the low- to mid-single-digits. The p-type 210 mm, 150 μm lost the least at -1.6%, with the p-type 182 mm, 150 μm losing -3.3%. While prices for n-type 210 mm, 130 μm were down -3.0%, the n-type 182 mm, 130 μm lost the most at -5.9%. In contrast, the p-type 210 mm, 150 μm was the only wafer type to lose value in CW50, dropping -7.6% WoW.

Following CW50 where only the PERC cell types saw declines as TOPCon wafer prices remained stable, prices for all cell types declined in CW51. PERC p-type bifacial 182 mm prices were down the most at -8.2%, PERC p-type bifacial 210 mm lost -2.3%, while TOPCon n-type 182 mm prices were down -2.0%.

As with cell types, all module types listed were down single-digits in CW51. Prices for PERC monofacial p-type, 182 mm declined the most at -4.3%, while both PERC bifacial types declined -2.1% each. TOPCon bifacial n-type dropped the least at -1.0%.

Solar glass varieties listed continued their inertia after they had made sudden jumps upward in CW35 – the thicker one by 9.8% (3.2 mm), the thinner product by 8.1% (2.0 mm).

On a year-to-date basis, the products in all categories of this index but one cost less in CW51 – the least price drops can be seen for thin glass, which is down single digits, while all the other products have fallen in the double-digit range. The largest price drop is for reusable Chinese polysilicon of up to -71.0%. But while silicon prices have more or less stabilized at very low levels in recent months, module prices are facing new record lows – now down by up to -51.9% for PERC monofacial, whereas n-type wafers are approaching the silicon level, now down up to -63.2% YtD. All cell types listed have now crossed the -46% level, approaching module price drops YtD. Only 3.2 mm glass costs more (1.8%) than at the beginning of the year.

The data refers to average product prices in China. The data was collected by Chinese market research firm Gessey PV Consulting.
