Software Horses Getting Tired of Pulling Rusty Hardware Carriages
On Thanksgiving day, while the turkey was cooking in the oven, I started raking leaves in the yard of my house. Around 6:00 am Pacific, the phone rang from a friend on the East coast thinking that I was in Michigan. He wanted to buy a laptop of a specific brand (not mentioned here) and some price range on cyber-Monday. His question was for me to provide a recommendation.
So, I stopped my work and went to my PC to do the research. As per the specs provided by my bro, the choice came down to only two processor Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 155U and AMD Ryzen 7 pro 8840U. To me, it looked very easy to pick one and so, I made a recommendation for the latter one.
My friend probably owned a PC or a laptop with only Intel-inside since his first one dating back over 25 years so, he asked me what if he still goes with the Meteor Lake? Well my answer was that it will serve him well for the task he wants to do with this laptop but it will need to be plugged-in for most of the time. I know that the brilliant software-horses of Intel are pulling the rusty and power-inefficient hardware carriage very well. Intel software is great just like the strong stallions but who may also be power hungry and need to be fed well. If the hardware carriage is rusty and doesn't move fast, it may be time to redesign it, until then the strong horses can keep pulling it forward.
