Softening Makes a Home Come Off as More Comfortable

Ever wonder why a home from the outside may come off as unwelcoming in your opinion? Well it can be as simple as you have too many sharp edges and straight lines that are giving off the wrong vibe.
The home above comes off as less comfortable because of the "sharpness". Here is the same home with me digitally adding some fake shrubbery.
When you take a walk in the woods, how many straight lines do you see? Yeah that’s right….none! When you do see a straight path, you know who made it right away. Man that is! Mother Nature doesn’t do straight lines, and it turns out, Mother knows best.
So when your house has lots and lots of straight lines or sharp edges it is slightly jarring to a visitor because it isn’t natural.
In Feng Shui, sharp edges pointing at a person is unhealthy or, at least, disconcerting. These edges have a name in Feng Shui. They are known as “poison arrowsâ€, and are something to avoid, or if necessary, to “softenâ€.
An amazing response can happen to a person, when a home has had these offending edges softened. A person becomes more comfortable and actually becomes more secure subconsciously. Once comfort “sets inâ€, a home’s best features stand out and are noticed more. But when there are an abundant amount of unnatural straight lines, straight paths, multiple angles, and edges…it is harder for a person to get by this immediately.
So when you are attempting to sell a home like the one below, have your client to take the time to remove as many of these “poison arrows†and straight lines as possible.
In Feng Shui "staging" we actually soften edges inside also, therefore creating a very comfortable environment inside also. Remember, sharp edges don't do you any favors, if wanting to sell quickly.
