Soft Skills and Social-Emotional Skills Combined with Artificial Intelligence as one of the Possible Futures of Education

In current literature, we don't see anything concrete yet, but in social media "corridors" and conversations at events where we meet with colleagues, it's widely debated that social-emotional skills and artificial intelligence (AI) are two important areas that will play a fundamental role in shaping the future of education.

Social-emotional skills, such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability, are becoming increasingly important in a constantly changing job market.

Employers are looking for individuals who possess these skills, as they can help employees navigate increasingly complex and dynamic work environments. As a result, education systems are beginning to place more emphasis on developing these skills in students.

On the other hand, AI is rapidly changing the way we live and work and is expected to have a significant impact on the job market in the coming years, more rapidly than ever before.

As a result, it's becoming increasingly important for individuals to have a solid understanding of AI and its potential applications. This requires education systems to offer students the opportunity to learn about AI and its implications, as well as the skills necessary to work with and develop AI systems.

In general, both social-emotional skills and artificial intelligence have an important role to play in education, especially when it comes to the future of education and the workforce. Here are some ways in which AI can be used in education:

Personalized learning: AI can analyze data about individual students' skills and learning styles and provide personalized content recommendations to improve learning effectiveness.

Real-time feedback: AI can provide immediate feedback to students about their answers, helping them understand where they need to improve and correct mistakes quickly.

Virtual tutoring: AI can be used to create virtual tutors that can help students understand complex concepts in an interactive and personalized way.

Performance analysis: AI can analyze students' performance data to identify patterns and trends, which can help teachers identify areas of strength and weakness and adjust their teaching accordingly.

Automation of administrative tasks: AI can also be used to automate administrative tasks, such as grading tests, which can free up time for teachers to focus on more important teaching activities.

It's worth mentioning that AI shouldn't be seen as the solution to all existing problems, as human interaction is fundamental to learning. AI needs to be seen as a tool to improve and complement the education sector, just as it's being implemented in other sectors.

What will be the role of teachers with the implementation of AI? With the automation of administrative tasks, teachers will have more time to focus on teaching activities, such as lesson planning, greater interaction with students, and closer individual progress assessment. Even if AI can make personalized recommendations for students, it will be the teacher's role to determine how such recommendations are integrated in the classrooms and how they will be used by students for better learning.

AI won't teach important social and emotional skills to students, such as problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, empathy, and others. These skills will be taught by teachers and can be combined with artificial intelligence:

Problem-solving: The ability to solve problems is essential to innovate and be creative. AI can help with this skill through games and activities that stimulate problem-solving more.

Communication: It's becoming increasingly evident that the ability to communicate clearly and effectively is essential for success in life and work. AI can help work on this skill with personalized learning tools and simulations that allow each student to practice communication in real-life contexts.

Critical Thinking: To make more informed decisions, the ability to think critically and analytically is fundamental. AI can help develop this skill with learning tools that identify patterns and...

Empathy: Who can put themselves in the shoes of others to understand other perspectives? AI can help develop this skill with simulations that allow students to experience other people's situations.

In short, Soft Skills and Socio-Emotional Skills combined with Artificial Intelligence are undoubtedly a possibility for advancing the future of Education.

They will involve Educators, Scientists, Families, Students and the entire community and stakeholders around the school and activate one of the most relevant changes in the way we teach and learn, creating a disruption in the current model in force for over 100 years.

A revolution in Education is just ahead of us, making it more personalized, efficient, accessible and engaging, always keeping the student at the center of the educational process.
