SOFT-CASE: ERGONOMIC HOUSINGS FOR MOBILE CONTROLS AND SMALL ELECTRONICS

Whether automatically or manually, regardless of the location – a wide variety of processes have to be regulated, for example the control of light and shade, air conditioning, solar or photovoltaic systems. For these and other applications, OKW offers enclosures for remote control units and for stationary units. In both cases, the tasks in question can be controlled very comfortably.

The SOFT-CASE series is an ergonomically shaped and highly tactile pocket size innovation from OKW.

SOFT-CASE handheld enclosures have been designed to suit a very wide range of small portable electronic devices. The handy design has soft contours which are tactile and pleasant to hold for a long time. Typical applications include measurement and digital control devices – wireless or with cable connections, portable instruments, mobile data logging and data capture equipment, infra-red remote-control devices, medical and laboratory equipment and peripherals and interfaces.

SOFT-CASES can easily accommodate electronic devices with wide format displays and keypads. The ergonomic profile of these enclosures is designed to enhance the visual impact and tactile quality of modern high value electronic devices. The top part has a wide recessed area for locating an LCD or membrane keypad. Each SOFT-CASE also has raised panel on the long edge of the base part for fitting a series of connectors i.e. USB, power, serial etc.

SOFT-CASE enclosures are moulded in off-white or lava grey ABS, or in black infra-red permeable PMMA (UL 94 HB). A choice of four standard sizes is available (S, M, L and XL) with external dimensions ranging from: 82 x 51 x 14mm up to 150 x 92 x 28mm. The three larger cases are available with battery compartments for fitting 1.5V AAA, 1.5V AA or 9V cells.

Screw pillars are provided in the top and base parts for fitting the PCBs and electronics assemblies. The cases are assembled by four self-tapping screws on the underside. The kit also includes four rubber self-adhesive cover plugs which conceal the fixings, and also act as non-slip feet when the unit is placed on a work surface.

Thanks to their rounded edges, the enclosures are suitable for both handheld and wearable electronics applications. The multipurpose combi-clip (accessory) allows the cases to be clipped to a pocket/belt or mounted on a wall. Other accessories include a tilt foot bar for table-top use, a strap eyelet for fitting on a belt and ring eyelets for a lanyard or wrist strap.

Optional intermediate ring mouldings increase the internal height of the case. These are offered in the three standard case colours, or chrome plated, or in soft TPE material which provides IP 54 sealing as well as protection from knocks and bumps.

OKW can supply the SOFT-CASES with additional holes for the push-buttons, connectors and displays etc., plus silk-screen printed legends and logos, and EMC shielding.
