SOFII Funding Driving Innovation
With the support of SOFII funding, Fieldless Farms is poised to take its innovations to the next level. The company is focused on scaling its operations and transitioning from small-scale projects to large-scale commercial initiatives. The goal is to drive widespread adoption of hyper-local growing practices through vertical farming, making fresh, sustainable produce more accessible than ever before.
Jon Lomow, one of the original founders of Fieldless Farms, emphasized the crucial role of SOFII funding in the company's growth trajectory:
"The SOFII funding was instrumental at a crucial time for our company. It has allowed us to scale, meet key milestones, and position Fieldless for further growth and diversification in pursuit of sustainable food sovereignty for Canadians. SOFII truly fills an important gap in the Ontario marketplace that can help scale-ups navigate through significant challenges."
Insights from Fieldless Farms Leadership
In 2014, the two original founders, Jon Lomow and Justin Ferrabee, brought their combined expertise in clean technology, digital companies, and food products to the table. They strongly believed that the next "revolution" would be in safe, secure, and sustainable food for the consumer, producer, and the planet. This vision led them to incorporate a company and invest time and capital into delving deep into what would later be termed Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). Recognizing that the challenge within CEA lay in delivering supply with positive economics, the founders stayed engaged within the CEA community, monitoring developments until 2017. At that point, they believed the industry was nearing a technology tipping point, prompting them to commit to funding and launching operations in 2020.
