Sodium-ion battery
Sodium-ion battery (sodium battery for short) is a new type of energy storage technology. Its working principle is similar to that of lithium-ion batteries, but sodium ions are used instead of lithium ions. Sodium-ion batteries have the following characteristics:
1. Sufficient sodium resources: Sodium is the sixth most abundant element on the earth and has abundant reserves.
2. High energy density: Compared with lead-acid batteries and nickel-cadmium batteries, sodium-ion batteries have higher energy density.
3. Good safety: Non-toxic, harmless and easy-to-handle materials are used in sodium-ion batteries. At the same time, due to the large size of sodium ions, the formation of dendrites of metallic lithium can be effectively avoided during the charging and discharging process, thus improving the efficiency of the battery. security.
4. Low cost: The materials used in sodium-ion batteries are low-cost, which can reduce the total cost of the energy storage system.
5. Strong recyclability: The materials used in sodium-ion batteries can be recycled, making the recycling rate of the entire energy storage system higher.
6. Sodium-ion batteries have a wider operating temperature range. The energy retention rate of lithium-ion batteries is 50%-60% at minus 20 degrees, and the energy retention rate of sodium-ion batteries is 90%.
The energy retention rate of lithium-ion batteries is only 37% at minus 40 degrees, while the energy retention rate of sodium-ion batteries is 80%.In addition, sodium-ion batteries can also work when reaching 80 degrees Celsius, but lithium batteries cannot.
