The SocialSurge Round-Up: August Edition

Welcome to the August edition of the SocialSurge Round-Up! We’re excited to bring you the latest news in everything digital marketing. Whether you’re new to digital marketing or an experienced pro, the SocialSurge Round-Up has something for everyone.

Did you see?

The world of digital marketing is constantly changing and you don’t want to miss a thing. Here are a few exciting changes in the marketing world from this past month:

Social Surge Biz Updates from the Team.

What's Going Well:

  • Social Team: We continue to see our paid ads from META getting better and better results. This month, we had one client in particular almost triple their follower count from one $100 ad on Instagram. Our targeting and setup are continually getting better and more on point.
  • SEO Team: Strategy planning has been a huge contributor to client success in Q2. Believe it or not, we used to be a bit more “fly by the seat of our pants” and it worked well but was not scalable or easily communicated to other team members. We’ve included many other team members in the SEO strategy planning and having their input has been extremely impactful. It allows us to pull all the best ideas, organize them, and act on them.
  • Management Team: We take our core values very seriously here at SocialSurge and this last month, there has been a real effort by our team to focus on those values and live by them. Those core values (Leadership, Transparency, Team-First, Energy) drive everything that we do and it has been awesome to see our team take those to heart.

What Isn't:

  • Social Team: We had an issue with our third-party scheduling platform blasting the wrong content to the wrong accounts. Of course, this wasn’t our team’s fault, however, it helped us to remember that staying up to date on accounts daily to make sure things look correct and are running smoothly is more important than we may think.
  • SEO Team: As sad as it is to say, we lost a few team members recently (happy for them of course!!) but it’s caused a bit of a “backup” in the work we have. The positive to this negative is we’ve had many people step up and showcase skills that we didn’t know they had. Overall, I’ve been extremely proud to be on a team that comes together when needed and does all they can to help our clients (and other team members) out.
  • Management Team: Sadly, we have had a few team members leave SocialSurge over the last month. We truly could not be happier for them as they move on to the next steps in their careers (and they know they are always welcome to come visit whenever they like) but it has, of course, been a bit draining for the team. We will be excited to announce some new faces by next month!

Stuff We've Learned:

  • Social Team: We've found that signing up for marketing newsletters is the best way to stay on trend and hear the latest news interestingly and engagingly. Here are some of my favorites: The Marketing Millennials, Hootsuite’s Global Webinar, and Team Brandwatch.
  • SEO Team: We've learned about the importance of quality training and continued feedback with content creation. Whether it be on the web side, copywriting side, or SEO optimization side, having constant feedback, discussions, trainings, etc. is something we haven’t prioritized in the past but will moving forward to help the team grow and feel confident in the work they do!
  • Management Team: We had a very interesting call with META about some of the ads that we are running for our clients. We are planning to implement some changes based on the call including running a new type of campaign called Advantage+ Shopping. META ads have a ton of new features that you will be hearing more about very soon!
