“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” — Michael Jordan
The other day my husband and I went axe throwing to celebrate our special day we call Kito and Patricia Day! Yes, we have our own day that we set aside, just for us. In theory, it seems easy to throw an axe at the target ahead of you, RIGHT? Just focus on the target, throw, and BOOM you got it! Little do most people know, it takes a lot of planning, focus and skill to land your axe on the target.
My husband is super awesome and picked up this concept quite easily, he was able to land the bullseye several times. He even completed hitting the bullseye three times in a row. Talk about being impressive! For myself, it took some time to land on the bullseye and when I did, I was super excited to know that my husband was able to catch my "victory" on camera. In that moment, I felt like I was accomplished and like most people what did I do? Well posted it on my Instagram page!!!!! DUH! I wanted the people who follow me to celebrate my "victory". You’re supposed to celebrate as a winner, right?
Well last night I decided to scroll thru the pictures my husband and I took during the axe throwing session and I noticed that I have no pictures of me failing to hit the bullseye. I have no pictures of the process that lead up to my "victory". I started to think why it was more important for me to share the culmination of my process as if it was best part of my axe throwing journey. The beauty in the process is that you continue to sharpen your skills and the people who you choose to be in your circle motivate you to do better. Every time you miss your goal, you go back to the starting line, select your axe of choice and throw it at the target again and again until you hit the bullseye. In that moment, I realized that the beauty of failure is that it is the best teacher we will ever know.
We live in a social media day and age, so much so that when we post anything about our personal lives, we only put our best moments. Rarely do we want to post about what we failed doing in our personal and professional lives. We save those moments for private times when people say, "How did you do it?", or "You make it look so simple.", and "#LifeGoals". Those are moments when we talk about the failed attempts, the money lost and failures along the way that got us to our "Final Victory." So, here's to the many failed attempts trying to hit the bullseye because without them I wouldn't continue to press forward. #WalkInLove
