The era of traditional UGC is over

Let’s face it, UGC isn’t what it used to be. Audiences are bored of the same old, uninspired formats, and it shows in the dwindling success of traditional UGC... Generic sales messages, overly-scripted narratives, and poor quality content are no longer cutting it. Brands have started adopting an adapt-or-get-left-behind mindset.

PG Tips have this strategy down to a T(ea). Working with creators to take control of their own narrative in the form of GRWMs and story times, all while enjoying a cup of PG Tips. The Ordinary adopted a similar strategy, recruiting a team of skin-obsessed creators to publish organic, user-generated reviews and demonstrations on TikTok. The result? A surge in engagement.

So, what’s the way forward? We've analysed the trends from the brands that are thriving. Here's what we know works ??

  • Ads that don’t feel like ads. Don’t make ads, make TikToks.

  • Hooks. You have 1.2 seconds to capture attention. Start with a bang.
  • Authenticity. Ditch the scripts and let creators speak their minds.
  • On trend. Stay ahead of cultural trends.
