We headed to A?u?s?t?i?n? A.I.ustin for SXSW 2024
We’ve just returned from the biggest marketing, film, music and TV festival in the world, SXSW, full to the brim with industry knowledge, inspiration and incredible BBQ food.
It was SHARE’s debut year hosting a presentation at the festival, launching our C.A.O.S white paper to community and content managers from all over the world. As you can imagine, the hot topic of 2024 was A.I. with 100+ hours of talks dedicated to the subject. We recommend you read this blog post for the detailed download.
However, today we wanted to share 5 nuggets of inspo from our favourite talk “GO VIRAL OR DIE! How To Create Viral Marketing Hits”.
The talk was hosted by Michael Krivicka, the mastermind behind some of the biggest viral video hits ever (we recommend you make a coffee at this point and watch all of these); Telekinetic Coffee Shop, Devil Baby, The Shaving Helmet, Sausage Party Promo and Don’t Look Up, plus many more.
Ahead of your next big video campaign, consider these factors to help you go viral...
?? Thought Starter
1. Think backwards from the media headlines, what do you want the BBC to say about you?
2. Make whatever product you’re selling more fun e.g. Krivicka made playing golf more fun
3. Ensure that the idea is really easy to explain to a friend in a bar i.e. “a golf cart hovercraft”
4. Be original, most brands try to make the world’s smallest or biggest, try to make the world’s first
5. Consider that if you can’t be original with the idea, be original with the execution

?? X usage dropped by 30% in the last year
What does this mean for brands? Well, the overall trends are not as important as your own audience engagement focus. If your audience is active on X, and you’re seeing positive results from the platform, then don’t let these reports deter you from using it.
?? Back to School-Tok
TikTok is increasing its commitment to educational content by expanding a dedicated STEM feed across Europe, starting in the U.K. and Ireland. The feed will begin to automatically appear alongside the “For You” and “Following” feeds for users under the age of 18.
?? LinkedIn introduces dynamic UTMs
UTMs play an important role in ad measurement, but building them manually is time consuming, inefficient and prone to errors. This new update enables you to automatically add UTM options to campaigns – as opposed to building them manually.
?? LinkedIn join the party
LinkedIn has announced that it is testing a new short-form video feed inspired by TikTok. Is this a good move for LinkedIn, or are they just not wanting to be left out?
Thanks!
