The Social Side of Crypto

By Moni Talks Founder and Chairman Brendan Beeken FInstSMM

It has been another busy few weeks for our development team, who have been conducting work across the Moni Talks ecosystem.

Much of the focus has been on soon-to-be-released updated main site, the trading platform, and ensuring functionality, security, and usability are optimised throughout Moni Talks.

This week, I thought I’d focus in on the progress being made with a unique element of our ecosystem, our dedicated cryptocurrency community space Talk Moni.

About Talk Moni

Regular readers will know that the aim of Moni Talks is to create an online community dedicated to crypto and digital assets.

Yes, it will include latest news, informative articles, educational tools, and a cryptocurrency exchange. But, at the centre, will be a social media-style platform.

Instead of conversations about crypto being divided across different sites, such as X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, we want to create a safer, welcoming space where the entire focus is digital assets and blockchain technology.

A place where crypto enthusiasts could talk about what matters to them, without cat videos and motivational life coach quotes cluttering up their timelines.

This will be a space where people talk crypto, NFTs, blockchain, P2E gaming with fellow enthusiasts. A place where experienced investors share tips and newbies can learn. A platform where people establish themselves as crypto influencers.

Users will form connections, chat about the digital asset news and developments that matter to them, and ask (and answer) questions of a united community.

Talk Moni will also feature tokenisation, so users earn rewards the more they contribute and engage with the community.

Latest Updates

The latest report from our dev team, outlining recent work carried out on Talk Moni, shows how close the platform is to release.

With much of the build complete, the past few weeks have focused on refining the user experience, especially for tablet and mobile phone users. This has required a demanding redesign of Talk Moni and optimisation work on the feed section to ensure it displays well and gives a good U/X.

What we have now is a more intuitive user experience for people on tablets.

The team is finessing the social platform, zeroing in on details that ensure seamless interaction and enhanced usability, such as improving the options, notifications, and messages elements.

While the main feed was the primary focus, the dev team has extended these improvements throughout Talk Moni. This has included enhancements to the Collectives (groups dedicated to specific DeFi and blockchain topics), chat screen, and visitor profile view screens.

Of course, the team hasn’t just optimised the U/X for tablets users. They have also made changes to improve the experience of those visiting Talk Moni on mobiles.

The headers, notifications, chat module, and message screens have been made responsive, so they adapt fluidly across many types of mobile devices

A specific challenge the team has had to overcome related to the preference page user interface on mobile devices. Issues around the preference tab were studied, unpicked, and resolved during the latest development work.

There were also further button and tab enhancements for improved clarity and usability. The team also seamlessly incorporated a ‘read more’ functionality, so users can choose to take deep dives into more detail on the topics they find interest, without the primary interface being overwhelmed with content.

Thanks to all the dedicated work behind the scenes, Talk Moni is now developed to a stage where the focus is on optimising the platform for different devices, showing just how close we are to release.

Enhancements and Refinement

The Talk Moni main feed page will be the first point of interaction for most users, so it has received focused attention.

Among the usability improvements made recently were structural modifications to the ‘read more’ section, to make it better organised and more intuitive.

The user experience is also about aesthetics, so work has been carried out to improve the look of the platform. Among the tasks completed was deploying new icons to better reflect the Moni Talks brand.

The dev team also created and integrated a modal structure to improve user engagement and enhance the sharing experience for users.

Refinement of the Collectives also included aesthetic and functionality enhancements. Again, the ‘read more’ functionality was integrated in these pages, to give easy access to the content without cluttering the user’s primary view.

Collectives dedicated to digital assets available to buy and sell on our exchange, Trade Moni, will include an option to ‘buy now’. The aim is to make it as simple as possible for users to be able to chat and learn about an asset, explore its price trends and, if they choose, to invest.

The dev team have spent time ensuring that the ‘buy now’ button is responsive and functional, across a wide range of devices. This work is all about the user interface and experience.

Backend Development

Of course, there’s no point a platform looking good if it doesn’t work.

So, while the team has been optimising for tablets and mobile devices, and enhancement the U/I and U/X, there’s been a lot going on with the backend of Talk Moni too.

This has included establishing a robust database infrastructure, which involved the deployment of functions to manage the database pool connection. This is technical stuff, but essentially means the platform can handle multiple simultaneous database connections with performance being degraded.

Work was also undertaken to safeguard Talk Moni from potential abuse and overuse, as part of our security commitment, and deliver health check functions, to ensure Talk Moni remains healthy and able to be seamlessly managed.

It would take too long to detail all the work carried on the backend, but one notable enhancement I want to mention was improving uploading capabilities. The dev team set up a code to integrate Amazon S3 and enhanced the functionality by creating a separate ‘helper’ function.

Getting the Message

A core element of Talk Moni, just as you find on most popular social media sites, is chat messaging.

This has come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks, starting from the ground up. Obviously, user-friendly interface is vital to this, so that has been a crucial part of the development work.

A suite of features to enable functionality and usability have been added, with enhancements to the chat interface to improve the UI, such as chat headers, message boxes, and chat input functions.

The dev team has also added an emoji library, so users can enjoy a similar chat experience as they would on establish social platforms and apps.

Time has also been devoted to modelling the chat system. This crucial work involved defining models for cat, chat users, and messages, refinements to allow chats to be fetched effectively, and enabling of seamless image uploading.

More to Come

The latest development team report was extensive, covering work conducted across the entire Moni Talks ecosystem.

I’ve chosen to focus this week on the enhancements to Talk Moni, as this is central to what Moni Talks will be - a dedicated cryptocurrency community encouraging engagement, connections, and sharing.

There’ll be another update soon.
