How Social Responsibility is part of a broader mission in Judo club Golovec
Social Responsibility is expected to be an integral part of sports organizations. In Judo club Golovec (JCG) we believe we have a responsibility to use our capabilities such as knowledge, experience in Project & Event Management, Corporate Management, Sports Management etc. to help solving social issues and contribute to the overall good of society. We put it as an ethical obligation to local community in the sustainable city of Ljubljana.
Knowledge is the fundamental value of the club's management. Due to the professionalism of its individuals, the club is also renowned in the Slovene and international judo environment. Director of JCG and formerly successful competitor Ms Nu?a Lampe is the only female international judo referee in Slovenia and at the same time the Vice-president of the Slovenian Judo Federation. Ms Nu?a Lampe was recently rewarded for 20 years of work in sports by the Sports Association of Ljubljana.
The development of the club is based on professionalism and tradition. In addition to implementing the basic mission of providing judo training for all generations, in the last two years a lot of efforts have been invested in a broader mission: to contribute to a better quality of life and sustainable progress in the local community.
#1 Judo Ukemi Lessons in Schools
According to the National Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia (2017), the cause of approximately 60% of injuries in children occur as a result of falls. In the direction of preventing injuries, together with our partners, a socially responsible project Judo ukemi lessons was carried out in Elementary and Secondary Schools. The exercise is carried out as part of a regular training for physical education in order to recognize the correct fall and reduce pediatric injury. The program is free of charge for parents. More than 250 children participated in the program.
#2 Exercise and keep fit classes for Seniors
In JCG we are aware of the challenges of the demographic change issue in the EU and of the importance of preserving the physical wellbeing of the elderly. That is why, with our partners, we organize exercise and keep fit classes for seniors in Homes for the Elderly and a presentation of the philosophy of judo.
#3 Judo ukemi lessons for vulnerable children
Judo is more than just learning and using combat techniques. It is a comprehensive and wonderful system of physical, intellectual and moral education, which is why we are socially responsible in this way. Within the framework of the Community youth programs of the Centre for Social Work Ljubljana, a free sports program Judo ukemi lessons for children of vulnerable families was launched.
#4 Transferring knowledge from international projects
We transfer knowledge and experience to the local environment from international development projects which aim to promote intercultural dialogue, volunteering and inclusion, and empowering youth through judo philosophy. We strongly believe the way we engage young people today will determine the prospects for sustainable development.
