Social Platforms

FYI... Heads up, everyone!

The social tools you use for your personal, business and pleasure are uniquely different depending on the platform you may use.

From handhelds to tablets, to full internet browsers, or apps unique to a particular platform, they are not equally the same.

It is very important to know the limitations of each before you communicate outward. I keep learning this lesson every time I try to share. By far the best platform is from the browser experience on a desktop/laptop computer. There is more control over what you want to do (unless it's Instagram) than from those other devices or apps.

Do not sacrifice portability over control.

Just this evening I used #Facebook on my iPhone to communicate a special message to my family group. In my mind it was a private communication. In reality, everyone connected to my family was allowed to see and comment. That's the limit of the app. I quickly corrected the problem on my desktop and thought to share the experience in a quick article.

Here's my Facebook world and how I control it. You may be my Friend, but I do not follow anyone - hence you, and everybody else does not cloud up my news feed. I put every contact into a group that makes sense, as in, I knew you when growing up in a certain town or state, then you are in that group. If you are also part of a work or social group different than those growing up years, then I put you in that news feed group also. I have several folks in multiple news feeds! That way, I click on a specific feed and see all my connections from a similar background.

Rule of thumb: Know Your Tools
