Most recently with the #Facebook boycott I have been asked by many friends and students about what to do on social media NOW? Most want to know what is the best platform to connect with their consumers?
It is scary to see how many people are scrambling to find new ways to connect, communicate and engage with their audience. It all feels like we are trying to break free from a codependent relationship.
Questions like what should I do on Instagram? How do I use #TikTok? Is LinkedIn a good place for this type of posts?
My answer still remains the same. It depends!
Do you know who your consumer is? Are you talking where they are?
If you can’t answer the questions above, then you must learn as much as you can about the person you want to connect with before choosing a platform.
There is no such a thing as a one size fits in communication anymore. The key to building a sustainable brand is to become “personal, at scale”.
Here are a few key questions to better understand your consumer:
- What are the (3) most important insights about this person?
- What are their dreams, fears, goals and that one thing he/she will do anything for?
- How can you help solve their problems for them?
Once you are able to answer those questions, then you can begin to map the barriers that might be preventing them from reaching their goal or simply living their best life. From here, you begin to think about your solution, a product or a service, it must be something that will either remove their barrier or enable them to reach their goal.
Now, you know the consumer! Right?
It means that you know where to find them. Is it on What’s App, Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn? How are you going to connect with them?
This is the beginning of a personal, yet scalable relationship with your audience.
Now, over to you! What are you doing to stay connected with your community?
