Social Media Updates in July
Wow! That was a busy month for updates! I reckon the social media channels know we are updating our courses at the moment! They make a last minute change - which we incorporate - but that is too easy...... they change the change!
Our updated courses will be available in the next couple of weeks. If you purchase a course, you will get 12 months access including at least 1 more course update. You can see our full range here.
Unmention
If you are included in a conversation that you are not comfortable with, you can ‘unmention’ yourself.?This will:
Note: Your username will appear in text form in the initial tweet you were mentioned in.
Alt Text Captions
Twitter will start to prompt you to add alt text captions to images to make the feed more accessible.?
Videos
All video posts will become Reels and will have access to the create editing tools (music, effects, text overlays etc). ?Any video could be remixed so be aware of the remix settings if you don’t want people to be able to do this.
Any video (Reel) under 90 seconds, posted from a public account will “be eligible to be recommended and seen by more people on Instagram” Read more.
The video and Reels tab will be combined so there will be one home for all of your videos.
Algorithm
During the month, Instagram has been changing the algorithm to show more videos from accounts you don’t follow.?After a backlash from users, Instagram have rolled back some of the changes and will reduce the number of recommended posts.?
Instagram Dual
A new feature called Dual is rolling out which allows you to use both your front and rear cameras at the same time.?This will allow you to record something interesting as well as your reaction to it.?To do this, create a reel, choose more options and select the Dual camera icon.
Multiple Personal Profiles
Facebook is testing an option to allow additional Facebook personal profiles or aliases to be created.?
Each of the aliases will be linked to your main account but will allow you to use different profiles to connect with friends and professional contacts or use in groups.
领英推荐
Each alias profile will be able to customize the Feed differently and you will be able to choose different security settings for each profile.
You will not have to use your real name for the additional profiles. You will only be able to engage with a post once across all profiles.
Recommended Content
Facebook is rolling out a change to its algorithm as it continues to try to compete with Tik Tok. A leaked memo has suggested that Facebook will change to show Stories and Reels at the top of the tab “followed by posts its discovery engine recommends from across both Facebook and Instagram” Read more.
Personally, I am already seeing more ‘recommended’ posts rather than posts from pages and profiles I choose to follow.
Professional Mode
An option is rolling out to switch your personal profile to “Professional Mode”. You will keep your security settings but will also get access to Insights (via a new Professional Dashboard) as well as the option to monetize your account.?
Ultimately this means creators who are often only interested in building a personal profile will not need a business page as well as a profile.?Read more
New Pages Experience
We are seeing more pages being forced to move to the New Pages Experience. This gives you a Feed based on the groups the page belongs to and the pages and profiles the page follows.?It is an easy way to interact with content.?
Originally the plan was to remove ‘likes’ and only show ‘follows’ but now the page can choose which to display.
Features you will lose when switching include jobs, appointments, offers, reviews, check-in, page templates, locations management and global pages.
Share
Share a post now has two options:
I have seen a suggestion that says ‘share’ is changing to ‘repost’.
In conclusion
