I was very young when my uncle told me news is like an epidemic that can spread quickly, and it is as big as an ocean that can cause huge damage if it is abused.
While 2020 is a new year in digital outreach with big social media gurus, the news impact our lives on daily bases. The spread of fake news makes bigger damage to the image of real reporting and honest journalism.
It is very easy to use some fake images and incorporate it into current news, or even create a fake tweet from someone's account.
With the speed news trend on social media, everyone claims to be citizen journalist. As the number of the fake news rises, the role of actual journalism verses trends and citizen journalism come into play.
The big questions in everyone’s mind remain are who to trust and which source remains unbiased and reliable. While social media platforms try to sell their products and keep the audience, the rapid spread of fake news is in the rise that impact our lives.
Facebook recently announced that it has banned "deepfakes", or fake videos manipulated by artificial intelligence (AI) as it prepares for the onslaught of deception and disinformation that this year's US presidential election expected to unleash.
Developing countries with much eagerness to access social media are the immediate victims of fake news rather than bigger countries with cyber security.
The digital access to news and information is phenomenon. Everyone is keen to check the news, follow news, spin the news and share the news. Recently, for better information worth your time, there are a few useful apps developed which may help with identify fake news verse correct information on different social media platforms like Credder.
Eventually, journalists with unbiased views and true reporting paying the price for fake news spread but yet many sources are objective and report fair on different topics.
