It’s Monday again and you know what that means…another social media update roundup!
Instagram confirms it is experimenting with a "Re-Post" feature for the Main Feed.
In an effort to restore credit back to original creators, Instagram is working on bringing the repost feature to their platform.
Similar to Twitter’s “Retweet” feature, the new addition will allow users to repost others’ posts to their instagram news feed, allowing you to share posts that you love with your followers.
“We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed – similar to how you can reshare in Stories – so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work. We plan to test this soon with a small number of people.” - Meta Spokesperson
Many users have voiced their opinion online, concerned that Instagram continues to go against what their audience wants and what it was initially built for - being a place to share photos with friends and family, as well as the fear of a cluttered news feed that is no longer relevant to them.
Let us know what you think about this change in the comments below!
WhatsApp and Linkedin Sharing Buttons added to Twitter posts
Twitter has been exploring approaches to broaden the audience for tweets and make it simple to share tweets across various platforms. With dedicated buttons for Twitter in India, Twitter is initially rolling out the option to share tweets on other applications like Whatsapp and Linkedin.
As WhatsApp is the dominant messaging service in the area and, in reality, the main tool connecting Indian users to the digital economy, it makes sense for Twitter to leverage this whenever possible in order to increase tweet reach and engagement.
On a different front, Twitter has added a new sharing option for tweets to LinkedIn in addition to enabling tweet sharing to Snapchat and IG Stories on Android (previously only available on iOS).

Instagram Experiments with New 'Add Topics' Option for Reels Upload
Instagram will be slowly introducing the option to ‘Add topics’ to reels, helping to refine its Reels recommendation systems, which are currently a top priority for the app.
This new feature will be a brilliant addition for honing in on specific target audiences and ensuring that your content reaches the right accounts with interests in the topics provided.
But as Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri notes, it hasn’t worked out its recommendations engine just yet:
“When you discover something in your feed that you didn't follow before, there should be a high bar — you should be delighted to see it. And I don't think that’s happening enough right now.”
Due to their high dwell time and ability to hold users' attention, Instagram reels are ultimately being implemented into almost every aspect of your news feed. It's Instagram's preferred form of content, and despite complaints from users about the platform's tendency to copy other content platforms- such as Tiktok- almost 20% of user time on Instagram is spent watching reels and continues to rise each quarter.
What do you think about the changes to Instagram? Do you think they should change their strategy or should they focus more on innovation?
