Social Media ≠ Real Life

Social Media ≠ Real Life

Hey LinkedIn Fam,

Hope you're all doing fantastic, both in your personal and professional endeavors!

I wanted to chat with you about something on my mind latel, and this recent event made me want to discuss it with you.

You might have heard about the news that Ruby Franke, the parenting influencer who ran the "8 Passenger" YouTube channel has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for child abuse. Ruby Franke, is known for her popular YouTube channel "8 Passenger," as the mother of six offering parenting advice. However, it has now come to know that she was, in fact, physically abusing her children under the guise of parenting techniques described as "concentration camp style."

It's a reminder that not everything we see online is reality. Social media is very different from the actual life that we live. The stuff that we see is a product of content curated for views and likes.

As someone who loves creating wellness content and sharing it with my fantastic subscribers (yes, that includes you!), I take real pride in ensuring that the content I put out there is genuine, uplifting, and real. While I may not have a million followers and subscribers like some, I'm very particular about how each message I send out is meaningful and resonates positively with you.

So, with all this in mind, I just wanted to remind you to be a little picky about the content you consume. When you're browsing online, take a moment to consider whether the message aligns with your values and beliefs.

When selecting the people whose content you want to consume, consider the following tips:

  1. Message Alignment: Focus on the message that resonates with you. Look for content creators whose values, beliefs, and goals align with yours.
  2. Qualifications and Expertise: Pay attention to the qualifications and expertise of the content creators, especially for serious health advice. Look for professionals with relevant credentials, certifications, or experience in their field.
  3. Content Quality: Assess the quality of the content being delivered. Look for accuracy, reliability, and depth of information provided.
  4. Target Audience: Consider the audience that follows the content creator. Determine if the target audience aligns with your interests, demographics, or preferences.
  5. Critical Evaluation: Develop a habit of critically evaluating the content you consume. Question sources, check facts, and seek multiple perspectives on a topic.
  6. Diversity of Sources: Seek diversity in the content you consume. Follow a variety of voices, perspectives, and opinions to gain a well-rounded understanding of different topics.
  7. Time Management: Be mindful of how much time you spend consuming content online. Set boundaries and prioritize content that adds value to your life.
  8. Trust Your Instincts: Trust your instincts when selecting content creators to follow. If something feels off or doesn't sit right with you, it's okay to disengage or unfollow.

And hey, don't forget to have fun too! Follow content creators who make you smile, inspire you, and bring a little sunshine into your day. And if something doesn't quite sit right with you, it's okay to move on and find something that does.

Have a wonderful day, and here's the reality check: Social Media is not Real
