Looking to make sense of the Elon Musk news? Here are some links to get you up to speed.
If you're a social media manager in the public media system, here is my advice for how to approach Twitter in 2022:
- Even though many Musk proposals are up in the air,?plan for an edit button?to come to Twitter, and very soon. You can bet that Twitter's edit feature will be very similar to Facebook's. Your approach to using the "edit" feature on Twitter should be the same as your approach on Facebook and Instagram (GBH employees should consult the Social Media Producer's Handbook for guidelines?on issuing corrections transparently).
- Make sure you are?diversified?on the platforms where you have the potential to build audience. This is a good reminder that you should never be reliant on any one platform; invest time in building audiences on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms where your target audience(s) spends time.
- If you don't have one already, create a plan for?converting?your most loyal followers, and set reasonable benchmarks for moving followers through?the audience journey to be more loyal members of your brand. The most common way to do this is to encourage Twitter followers to sign up for your newsletter(s).
- Don't waste your energy on following every twist and turn of the Elon Musk saga, as it's sure to bring some major drama as the deal closes. Instead, I'll be summarizing the balcony-level insights that you need to know here in this newsletter. Trust me on this one!
