Social Media - The New Way to Search
Do you use Social Media to search for brands or services? If you do, you are not alone. Searches through Social Media became a developing trend throughout 2015 and will continue in 2016.
Google is still the top dog for search, and this will probably remain the case for some time yet. However, Facebook and Twitter are now being increasingly used by consumers to search also, especially for places to eat and drink. These platforms give easy access to what your friends, followers and even complete strangers thought of the products and services provided. This highlights the ever-growing reliance on stranger’s opinions in what we choose to do, something which is growing more and more in the minds of the “new consumer”. With updated Facebook search options now making it easier than ever to find what you need and an opinion on it.
Social Media users aren’t just using Facebook & Twitter for search. Second tier platforms are coming the forefront. Pinterest now has a big presence in the world of Social, helping to select the new colour scheme for your bathroom, or what is `in’ this season. Collated pin boards now enable users to see related content in high quality images, very easily and at no cost, gone are the days of expensive, glossy interior design magazines.
LinkedIn has also joined the search trend. The professional network and its Job Search app help users to find their new career path, as well as LinkedIn Pulse to highlight the top stories circulating in different industries. Apps such as Pulse take searching away from the user, automatically bringing the stories you want to see, straight to you - providing an amalgamation of content important to you and your industry, in one centralised hub.
That is all interesting news but what does it actually mean for your company? A prominent Social Media presence is now more important to your brand than ever before. Effective and regular management with engaging campaigns can mean your brand is seen above competitors in user searches. In addition, good Social Media management will allow you to accelerate relationships with Social Media users, to create a loyalty to your brand that is unachievable by many of your rivals. Once relationships are made they can be nurtured in similar ways with effective management, allowing for quick and effective responses to comments about your brand - whether positive or negative, customer engagement is vital.
