The Social Media Mistake 90% of Lawyers Make in Building Their Personal Brand

Hey there, fellow legal professionals! ?? Today, we're diving into a common mistake many lawyers make when building their personal brand or online presence: focusing on just one or two social media channels, like LinkedIn and Instagram. While these platforms are powerful, relying solely on them can limit your reach and potential client base. Let’s explore why this is a crucial mistake and how to fix it.

The Problem with Limiting Your Social Media Presence

?? Different Audiences, Different Platforms: Each social media platform has its unique audience. By limiting yourself to one or two platforms, you're missing out on engaging with diverse groups of potential clients. For instance:

  • LinkedIn is great for professional networking.
  • Instagram is perfect for visual content and storytelling.
  • TikTok attracts a younger, more dynamic audience with short, engaging videos.
  • Facebook offers a mix of demographics and a sense of community, especially with groups.
  • Telegram provides a private space for direct communication and exclusive content.

A Real-World Example: Success in Estonia

To illustrate the point, let's take a look at one of the smallest markets in Europe—Estonia. Despite its size, leveraging multiple social media channels can yield incredible results. Here are some stats from my own experience:

  • Facebook: 4700 followers
  • Facebook Group: 20,676 followers
  • Instagram: 1922 followers
  • TikTok: 2079 followers
  • LinkedIn: 1630 followers
  • Telegram Group: 407 followers

Impressive, right? But remember, it's not just about the number of followers. The key is having real and active followers. Every month, I clean out bots and commercial pages to ensure engagement remains high.

For example, despite having 2079 followers on TikTok, my short videos often reach 10-30k plays! After each video post, I receive at least 10-15 real client inquiries WITHOUT USING PAID ADS. That’s enough work to keep me busy for the whole month. ??

Tips to Expand Your Social Media Presence

So, how can you avoid this common mistake and build a broader, more effective online presence? Here are some tips:

  1. Diversify Your Platforms: Don't just stick to LinkedIn and Instagram. Explore other platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram to reach different audiences.
  2. Understand Your Audience: Tailor your content to fit the platform. What works on LinkedIn might not resonate on TikTok. For example, share professional achievements and insights on LinkedIn, while using TikTok for fun, informative short videos. You should also understand which topics or types of content generate more engagement from your audience. This will help you reach a new audience by going viral.
  3. Engage Regularly: Consistency is key. Post regularly and interact with your followers. Answer questions, respond to comments, and join discussions.
  4. Track Your Performance: Data is the key! Use analytics tools to monitor which platforms are driving the most engagement and inquiries. Focus more on those, but don’t abandon the others entirely.
  5. Clean Your Follower List: Regularly remove inactive accounts, bots, and commercial pages to ensure your follower base is active and engaged.
  6. Create Value-Driven Content: Share tips, success stories, and behind-the-scenes looks at your practice. Value-driven content attracts and retains followers.
